Re: Incident in Riberas
If you scroll down to the bottom of the awful translation, there are two links to Spanish-language newspaper articles.
Unfortunately, many of us (me included) can't speak or read Spanish well enough to understand the articles in the original language so we have to depend on the garbled stuff that autotranslators spit out. Yes, I know, we should learn Spanish and I am learning Spanish, but it's a slow and painful process!
Now if any of you fluent Spanish speakers wants to volunteer to translate for the lakechapalacrime folks, I am sure they would be grateful for the help. In the meantime, they are doing the best they can with the resources they have.

Re: Incident in Riberas
Chapala • Homicide officers from the Jalisco Attorney General's Office are investigating the circumstances in which a male U. S. citizen and his employee were attacked with an edged weapon inside a residence in the Riveras del Pilar subdivision in the municipality of Chapala.
Municipal police officers in patrol vehicle CH-03 were informed of two injured people inside the house at 204 San Diego Street and Rivera Avenue in the aforesaid neighborhood.
Upon arrival the uniformed officers found a dead man lying on the floor of the kitchen.
The victim was face down, with his arms covering his face. He was wearing blue jeans, a red sweatshirt and sandals.
Meanwhile, the foreigner of approximately 80 years of age was found stretched out on the corridor between the rooms. He still displayed signs of life and was therefore immediately transported to the Cruz Roja facility in Chapala, where he is reported to be in critical condition.
Municipal authorities reported that the stove's gas outlets were left open by the murderers.
Experts from the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Science (IJCF) reported that it was not immediately obvious that any valuable items were missing from the residence.
The body was conveyed to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) in the municipality of Ocotlán.
Comment: The bit attributed to the IJCF spokesperson literally translates as "it was plain to see that there was no shortage of valuable objects in the residence" and is a bit ambiguous, to me at least.

Not blaming Lakesidecrime, I had not seen the link to Milenio and did not get the translation.
The "keys to the stove" did not make sense to me in English but did in Spanish, that is the way my brains work...
As for translating just forget it, I have no talent for it just like you have no talent for Spanish.

Re: Incident in Riberas
Geebus H. somebody wanted one or both of them deader than dead, and the police could have been in serious trouble if someone had lit up a cigarette.
This one is a real mystery to be sure.
Hope the guy pulls through this one. Scary story.

Re: Incident in Riberas
Do not worry we won´t( unless the survivor can tell the police what happened). The gas think could have blown up the house and anyone around it.
It happened in an appartment building in our courtyard in Paris. Someone commited suicide by leaving the gas on, a neighbor rang the bell and the top of the building blew up killing the neighbors and a bunch of people on the street. That is a nasty way to go...

"The two men fighting with each other"
And the older man came out the better?...That would be an aberation, but I guess, not impossible.

Re: Incident in Riberas
You forgot, they were either going to cook before the fight and forgot to turn off the gas or they turned on the gas as they started the fight just to see how long they could hold their breath,, another likely story .
It reminds me of the suicides of the terrorists in French jails. They had a tendency to commit suicide by shooting themselves in the back of the head...

Re: Incident in Riberas
If authorities really think a fight is a possibility, that means there must have been weapons left at the scene. The gas being turned on might have been a suicide attempt.

The actual relationship between the two men may explain everything.

Indeed.
I happen to have a weapon in my house which would put an end to any fight. A nice piece of 3/4 inch rebar. So let's not discount the old guy. Baseball bats, baby weapons. I'll go for the rebar every time. Bring it on pendejos. Remember I'm in the house. Getting in means you have to face wasp spray in the eyes and a meaner than cat dirt old lady with 4 feet of rebar clutched in her hot little hands.

Actually Winchester didn't start making rifles until about 1855. And Jefferson died in 1826. And he was a lot smarter than that. For the record.

Gee whiz flamingo, I was just trying to be funny, and I see it failed with you.
Actually that quote belongs to Evel Knievel but thought I'd spice it up with saying TJ.
Would never try to get something like that passed an American History major in seriousness.

I think what he actually said was, "God made all men equal; Winchester made men and women equal."
