Re: More on the virus
I am doing just what I have been doing, no more, no less. No large gatherings or crowds of any sort, wear mask in public, social distance, and wash hands. I am cautious but not fearful.

Oooh, you guys are brave. I'm scared of this virus. Dying air hungry has never looked like my preferred way to go. I'm staying home, doesn't bother me.

“Brave” is not the word I would use. It does not require courage for me to go out for necessary errands and services. I do not feel in danger. I think everyone needs to decide what they realistically can and can not do in the long term. I have considered the risks, what precautions are most important to reduce the risks, and what is necessary for me to have some quality of life. I practice those things. My life is not the same as it was before but I can live with the way it is. Never leaving my house or never letting another human in are things I could not do and remain sane.

Re: More on the virus
I'm living my life like I was before other than wearing a mask when I go out and not spending as much time at night in the bar since the muni has decided that it's ok for restaurants but not bar's to reopen. I do attend some backdoor bar poker games. Now......if I was 10 or 15 years older with underlying conditions I would probably stay home.

If we continue using face masks and social distancing the yearly cases of flu will also be affected. Maybe we should have done this a long time ago. I’ve often wondered about old traditions and how they got started. Like taking off shoes when entering a house, washing hands and covering the face like They do in the Middle East. These customs predate the discovery of microorganisms but maybe they suspected certain things.

Re: More on the virus
I just finished my nightly news recap and came across this on Reuters. It's kind of a one stop shopping list of all treatments, all vaccines and all antibody tests that are currently available or in study. It also has further links for each one and the "caveats", if any exist.

Re: More on the virus
And then there were none.
From Chapala Health Talk FB page and I confirmed on Mexican map of virus cases. The one that appeared yesterday for Chapala is gone.
From Chapala Health Talk FB page and I confirmed on Mexican map of virus cases. The one that appeared yesterday for Chapala is gone.
The man who said he lived “outside of Chapala” was actually from Ixthualacán when they checked his ID. Still, we have 3 tests pending and it’s only a matter of time until we have confirmed cases.
Ixtlahuacán now has 3 cases, two of which are active.
First confirmed case of Covid-19 removed from Chapala
The municipality of Chapala was removed from the list of municipalities with confirmed cases of the new Coronavirus (Covid-19), because this case corresponds to a resident of Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos, the Ministry of Health Jalisco (SJ) reported through a Press release.
The confusion arose when the patient said to live outside Chapala and so he was settled in his epidemiological study; however, when verifying his home it turned out that he has his residence in the municipality of Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos, according to information obtained by PAGINA Que Si Lees.
At the report of May 27, Chapala reappeared with zero confirmed cases on that platform, while the case "badly referenced" was awarded to the municipality of Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos, where it belongs, to reach three confirmed cases of the disease , of which, two are active cases.
Although it still has no confirmed case of Covid-19, Chapala has four suspected cases and 33 more that tested negative to Covid-19, according to the platform that with the support of the Federal Ministry of Health (SSA) and CONACYT was developed to show the advance of the pandemic in Mexico based on official data.

Re: More on the virus
THIS is what makes me stay home. This is what makes me diligently wear my mask and ask others to pull up their masks and cover their noses. This is what makes me keep 6 ft from people. Treatment is what scares me most, and I've seen this with my own eyes.

Re: More on the virus
Mexico’s medical system thrives because it does well off the low hanging fruit, the routine, easy cases. It doesn’t do cutting edge medicine.
I’ve worked at Guadalajara IMSS and saw my sister-in-law die in Merida IMSS from what should have been a routine case so I’ve seen the system operate from both sides.
Of course I also saw my son have his broken wrist set using an axillary block. In and out in less than two hours. Fee-25.00 dls.

I question that, after having had better treatment from Mexican doctors and hospitals for some serious conditions than I had in the U.S. I don't think it's fair to lump treatment at IMSS facilities with that from private doctors and hospitals in judging the quality of care in Mexico in general. A fairer comparison would be with the free public facilities in the U.S.

I've thankfully never had any medical issues since living in Mexico, but according to friends who have, your statement isn't true. I have a friend who has gone through cancer treatment here and said they did use cutting edge medicine and she was impressed and pleased with her treatment. Not only that, she got extra care that she would never had gotten up north- her oncologist offered to and did, pick her up at the Airbnb where she was staying in Guad, and drove her to the hospital each day for her treatments. Can you imagine a NOB doctor doing such a thing?
People get lousy treatment up north sometimes, too. It's not an across-the-board kind of thing. There's good doctors and not good doctors everywhere.

Re: More on the virus
As a friend said.. 'we just need to hope the virus mutates & only attacks the stupid people'...!!! kind of happening already - this week has been a real eye opener as to that Darwinian potential here locally ~ I can't even imagine # of Tapatios who will arrive tomorrow, now that restaurants open.. DARE any of you to go to Tangos this weekend!!!
Asymptomatic cases building... even w poor test quality, the figures are surprising the researchers. More data is suggesting the virus is transmitted thru the nose, not mouth so much, so all that below nose (under chin!) mask wearing isn't doing much. .. Irrigate that nose after grocery run w saline. Have aspirin on hand to thin blood (clotting seems an issue) & be ready w your URI tool kit. L- glutathione (an amino acid) is something new I'm reading about re: the shortness of breath thing. BUT 80% of relatively health ppl still seem to be relatively unscathed. But media stories stoke our apprehension & fear emotion more wrapped around the fact we've had the rug pulled out beneath us, no new normal, overwhelming ambiguity about what's going to happen. Talking w ppl goes circular, planning 6 months out futile.. an ocean of "what if's". And some people getting cranky. A new & different rainy season for sure..

Re: More on the virus
The number of persons reported for our state of Jalisco is 1,180 and the number of deaths 107.
I have been checking now the world, the US, Mexico, the state of Washington and King County (Seattle +) for quite some time. And each day the figures change and go up slightly. I recently discovered statistics for our state of Jalisco. I have been recording the numbers for the past five days. Apparently these numbers are updated only about once a week. The previous week there were 767 cases, and now we are up to 1180, and the deaths were 69 and now have increased to 107.
If these numbers for Jalisco are correct, they are quite low compared to many other States or areas of equal population throughout Latin America
I have no idea how accurate these #s are

None of the numbers are accurate. None of the tests are accurate. However, they will show spikes and trends.

Funny the way your lambasting the US. Maybe you should also check the death toll for France, UK, Spain, Italy and Brazil. Ops I forgot, that really does not fit your agenda.

I'm not sure who your addressing however the death toll in the US at over 105,000 is almost 4 times greater than anyone else.
