Re: More on the virus
The White House may be looking to Mexico as the scapegoat for the spike in US virus cases. They are looking at LEGAL crossings which may mean more tightening at the border?? The current land crossing tourist restrictions at the US-MEX border are set to expire June 22, but there were extended once already.
From today's WaPo online:

White House reportedly eyeing Mexico as source of rising infections
The White House is contemplating a theory that legal cross-border travel from Mexico may be causing a recent rise in coronavirus infections, the Associated Press reported, instead of newly loosened restrictions on businesses and public life.
The idea came up during a meeting Thursday of the federal administration’s coronavirus task force, which has been working to identify similarities among new hot spots in the United States, according to the news agency.
The United States’ recent rise in coronavirus cases appears to be hitting the Southwest especially hard. Hospitals are nearing capacity in Arizona, and more patients are being hospitalized in Texas. But in states far from the border region, such as North Carolina, Hispanic populations have experienced a worrying uptick in infections, too.
As the pandemic rages in parts of Mexico, the task force is examining whether those outbreaks may be spreading through legal travel, the AP reported. President Trump has regularly scapegoated the United States’ southern neighbor.
While nonessential travel across the border remains prohibited and traffic is down substantially, commercial transport and agricultural workers are still allowed entry to the United States. Small community hospitals in Southern California have been flooded with Americans who live along the border and cross it regularly during normal conditions, The Washington Post’s Kevin Sieff has reported.
With outbreaks spreading in northern Mexican cities such as Tijuana, the Trump administration has been urging Mexican officials to reopen — or keep open — many of the assembly plants there that feed into U.S. manufacturing supply chains, even as workers fall ill.
More than 133,000 infections have been confirmed in Mexico, and nearly 16,000 people have died. Those figures are a fraction of the totals in the United States, but they nonetheless amount to the fourth-largest coronavirus outbreak in Latin America.

Another one of the many screwups by WHO. They, along with Fauci and the surgeon general screwed up big time when they were advising everyone that they didn’t have to wear face masks. History will not look kindly at medical leaders who have directed the response to this pandemic.

Let’s not forget clueless Trump meandering in the back halls while tweeting stupidly irrelevant information to his followers.

No way. I don't believe he can walk and chew gum at the same time, let alone tweet.

How were the medical screwups supposed to know right from the start everything about a new virus unlike what they had been dealing with?

Re: More on the virus
Wearing masks, distancing, and frequent hand washing is something that has been practiced for a hundred years to prevent contamination. Even when, and especially when, you don’t know the pathogen. A book could be written about what we knew and when we knew what was going on. I was reading from my sources who were sounding the alarm in late January and early February. I was telling my kids to start stocking up their pantries in February. All that time Fauci and Trump and the surgeon general were downplaying the situation because they weren’t ready with PPEs and because the economy was a priority.
Have we forgotten how royally screwed up was Bush’s response to Katrina? This is worse.

I seem to have missed some of these memos. I don't remember Dr. Fauci advising people that face masks were unnecessary. I do remember Dr. Adams, the surgeon general, recommending the use of face masks and demonstrating how to make your own. While some of the criticism of the WHO may be valid, most of it has been politically motivated, leading to the U.S. withholding funding of the organization...not a very smart move during a pandemic.

Taking Dr. Fauci's comments out of context ain't gonna fool me. Now show me Dr. Adams advising people not to use face masks.

Re: More on the virus
Remember H1N1? Did you see masks? No. There was some gel tossed around. A couple of movie theatres made us sit every second seat, for like a week. Hindsight is wonderful, ain't it? Fauci is like the one public face in the administration of that dipshit government that tried to do anything right, risking his career in the process, and this is how you thank him?

Re: More on the virus
This is april3. We had our first case in the southern tip of Texas in mid March, by that time it was all over the country. The cattle was out of the corral by the time they closed the gate.
Here’s what I was listening to on Jan 26. Maybe you’ll get a different perspective on the timing of this and this is what our leaders knew and did nothing.

Re: More on the virus
Jreboll is most definitely NOT a fool. I have learned a lot while reading his/her posts in this thread. It's not really a matter of being smart, it's a matter of being aware of what's going on in the world or perhaps being more sensitive to it when having a medical background. What was happening in China in late January rang alarm bells for me too and I wasn't even aware of Chris Martenson's you tube videos at that time and Jreboll (thank you) posted the info.
Could it have been stopped (or mitigated) in the U.S.? Yes. It wasn't. No good crying over spilled milk.
The learning curve on this virus has been very steep and new knowledge and observations are coming out daily.
Try not to shoot the messengers because you're (plural) frustrated with the current situation. Be thankful it's not worse and it sure as hell could have been. Lay blame at the feet of those who didn't listen.
Protect yourselves against those who STILL don't or won't listen.

Re: More on the virus
I never agree with Smartalex, but I do this time. roll is taking Fauci out of context and like I said, applying hindsight. To copy someone else's thought: “To paraphrase Oedipus, Hamlet, Lear, and all those guys, "I wish I had known this some time ago.” "

Re: More on the virus
I bet Fauci wished he'd never said that on 60 minutes. However, he has also learned and has realized that masks (even ordinary double cotton ones) are two way protection when combined with social distancing.
