More on the virus - Page 15 Empty Re: More on the virus

So, I read a bunch of articles last night on the virus in Mexico. Sorry I don't have links, I was too sleepy to save them, but these articles are out there and some of you may have already read them.

My take-away was:
Basically, there are 2 schools of thought and both produce different time frames and predictions for the future here in MX.

School of thought #1 is the current numbers are correct and MX will not suffer as much as other countries have and our spike in cases will peak in May and we will begin the down side of a flatter curve, ending the whole MX pandemic in MX in a relatively short time. Like July.

School of thought #2 is the current numbers are grossly under-reported and inaccurate and MX has barely begun the curve that will be much steeper than school of thought #1 anticipates. This school of thought anticipates our pandemic curve to peak around June/July and start descending some time in August/September with our pandemic ending around October/November.

The Mexican economic picture, with either schools of thought, is grim. Either way you see it, it's going to be awhile.

#1 is incorrect. There’s only a handful of countries that have meticulous, thorough testing and Mexico is not one of them. Statements by AMLO made that very clear. That only leaves #2.

Yep.

And it looks like Tizapan El Alto is our first confirmed case on the lake. Our ground zero.

Yep
I don't know many details, it is a about 45 year old male, here visiting from California, got here a little over a week ago. Not sure when he had the first symptoms, but he may have been to at least two of the clinics here. No telling how many people he has been around. The locals are a bit upset that the first they heard was the official report today, although a few drug reps were texting the news to a couple of the pharmacists last night.

I look at the virus website every morning that CBob provided a while back. Every morning I hope to see hope. This morning France is reporting 1438 deaths over the past 24 hours. This is scary.

How about recovered? The rise in cases is too orderly. Not believable.

2125 recovered. Australia has very similar numbers of cases and recovered. Both around 35%.

I heard in some places the dead were included with the recovered since they were not an infection threat anymore.

This is an interesting read. If only. But, no, there are countries who are sooooo concerned with the economy or infringing on people's rights but EVERYONE has the right to life. Short term pain for long term gain should be the mantra. TEST!!!

I didn't see any typos but then my eyebrows hit my hairline when I read it. I think Burlington Hospital is very wrong and agree with the two named specialists later on in the article.

I'm getting a wrinkle in my forehead because of those eyebrows hitting the hairline so much lately.

I'm thinking there's a disconnection of understanding (possibly) by the media between testing positive for antibodies and testing positive for the virus itself. The two are very different. Best scenario... negative for the virus but positive for antibodies to it.

This is a long, but excellent report, from a qualified source. It is all spelled out.

So, are the sailors really asymptomatic or is the test showing lots of false positives? This seems to be very different from the (mostly older) cruise ship passengers that have been tested. Are the tests reliable?

The test they used was not disclosed.

Were ALL the cruise ships passengers and crew tested? Or just the ones with symptoms?

edited to add: This was all I could find with a quick search...

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/24/us/diamond-princess-cruise-ship-asymptomatic-tests/index.html

I've never been on a cruise but I always wanted to take the inside passage from Vancouver to Alaska. I just scratched it off my bucket list.

Local hospitals here in s. Texas are furloughing a lot of nurses. They are shutting down non-essential care.
