Re: More on the virus
Not all areas will have the same stats. NOB New York is far different than the rest of the nation. Likewise Michigan and Massachusetts.

That´s true, the lockdown here in Jalisco, has been much tighter than other parts of the country.
They even throw school teachers in jail in Chapala for violating…..

Just as I suspected Mexico has done only 820 tests per one million residents. One of the lowest rates in the world.

They are finally admitting what we've been saying all along.
"The former health minister said the government has failed to perform sufficient tests to have an idea of the “reality of the course of the epidemic.”"

Mexico is reporting 27,634 confirmed cases this morning. They are now on the leader board.

Bob,
The doctor has reported her results at her FB page. There is also a lot of back and forth with her about the results, almost all in Spanish.
She had tests at two places; the one in Joco sounds like it was a mouth swab and it came back negative. She also had a test (not sure where, she uses the acronym UPC) and later refers to it being a "federal" test. She seems to say there were two results (again using a lot of acronyms), one was negative (maybe for being contagious as she specifically states she is no longer contagious). The other test was positive for "IGG" which MAY mean antibodies, since she says later that she definitely had the virus but is OK now.
An interesting question asked was whether it be reported as a positive case for Chapala. She said she thinks the "federal" positive test should be counted as a case. I don't know if positive antibody tests are being counted as "cases" in other countries...you have a lot of medically-connected folks on this board who might know that.
Maybe someone with good Spanish skills can read her page (and all the q&a) about her test results and make more sense of it than what I got out of it via auto-translate tools. There are 40+ comments where some clarity was added to her original post.

The above article is very sad to read. And I thank heaven for Alfaro and his choices to buck the non-existent Federal guidelines.

Thanks for posting this. More Mexican reporters should be covering this. They are so used to looking the other way on narco crimes that they are doing the same with the pandemic.

Not necessary increasing tests just finding more people getting sick...do you really have any faith in MX reports, statics etc

As I posted before, Mexico is only doing 820 tests per million people, one of the lowest rates of testing in the world. We’ll never really know how many Mexicans have the virus.

And if you REALLY, REALLY knew, what would you do differently? What would any of us do differently? And who could supply numbers that would be irrefutable?
The constant questioning of the numbers is a total exercise in futility…..IMHO.

Re: More on the virus
Two months ago you couldn’t convince anyone here in Cameron county in south Texas to wear masks or to practice distancing. At present we have 469 cases and the changes have been dramatic. A nursing home a few blocks away had 29 confirmed cases. I can assure you that when danger strikes nearby attitudes change.

Human beings can be so ridiculous when they don't heed warnings.
Do they stick their hands in boiling water to prove that it will not burn and hurt?

And yet your governor can´t seem to open up the state fast enough to suit him or a lot of his constituency.

Re: More on the virus
Look, I’m not arguing politics here. I’m talking about risk assessment. Anyone here can go get themselves tested. Today we have 483 cases with 20 deaths in my county. On my Weather App. There is an Ovid button that you push and it gives you number of cases and deaths and percentage of change per week for any county in the state. What I do with that info is up to me no matter what the governor says or does. In Mexico you don’t have that info because it’s not available. And like I said, when the danger is nearby your attitude changes.

Re: More on the virus
I agree with you Jreboll, all this talk about reopening, based on suspicious stats and predictions, lifting bans, bla bla bla - what I do with that information IS UP TO ME.
Super Lake is reopening. Good for him. I miss SL, I will want to shop there but if he doesn't step up his safe shopping and install mandatory masks worn correctly on ALL employees, safe distancing, plexiglass barriers at the checkout, limiting entry or stopping entry completely (like El Granero is doing) I will continue to stay out of the store. It's been months since I've felt it was safe to go in that store.
It's up to us.
