More on the virus

I’ve heard Mexicans talk of past pandemics so most of them are afraid but not yet because no one in their neighborhood has died. Once Mexicans start to panic then all hell breaks loose. They don’t trust the health system like Americans do.

If only gringohombre had finished high school maybe then his perspective would be different.

Just out of curiosity, with nothing else to do I pretty much spend my days reading news reports from various parts of the world.
One them that seems to be popping up more recently is hunger and the other is the percentage of patients which die when on a ventilator and the percentage that actually recover.
The governments of Canada and the US from what I gather are both putting together plans to gradually reopen their economies.
Seems to me that if people adhere to social distancing, use of a mouth cover as well as follow other basic precautions that putting people back to work is better then hunger and social unrest.
By the way, I was pleasantly surprised to see that in my neighborhood (Cascada/Santa Maria) the majority are abiding by the mouth covers. Its actually funny to see small kids with them since it pretty much covers their entire face.

They say your ideas would probably work in Sweden where people will practice social distancing when allowed to have few restrictions in daily business activities. However Sweden already has a history of being socially responsible when it comes to avoiding germ transmission. Other countries don’t have these social norms.

Many medical specialists are getting traumatized as the high rate of deaths in people have ring ventilators inserted, a number like 70% of the patients are dying ..some thing is not working

The Mexican health authorities are either the smartest in the world or the stupidest. I don't think we are even close to the peak..... I think CDMX and Guad will have well over 100,000 cases each at the peak. I hope I am wrong and they are right.

Mexico is reporting 12,872 confirmed cases this morning.

With ramped up testing Ecuador has jumped from 10,000 to 21,000 in one day. Experts think they have 600,000 cases.......wow. They are calling it the epicenter in Latin America.

Did they ever find the president in Nicaragua?

Mexico is reporting 13,842 confirmed cases this morning.

MX reports about a thousand new confirmed cases each day. However, the testing process is extremely limited which means there must be thousands more each day not being included in the stats. Right? And, far as we know, around our lake, stats are only reporting 4 confirmed on the south shore. And, in our north shore community we hear of no pts and nobody seems to know of any pts.

Are we so isolated that we might escape the pandemic? Or are we just so delayed that it hasn't even begun here yet? Looks like we are all going to be in lockdown for a very long time until it plays out. Right? Aarrrggh!

It’s very frustrating to go so long being cooped up. But many of us have the means to adjust. It’s sad to see many who have to risk their health and their family’s because they cannot afford to isolate. At the same time lowering the curve in Mexico is extremely important because of the poor medical resources that are available. I keep hoping to see news about finding how to combat the virus but I’ve yet to see anything definitive. I’m taking all the vitamins and supplements that others recommend. I’m also thankful that I am well stocked, have good TV programming and internet service. I video conference with my kids almost daily. I just wish I could get rid of my wife’s damn cats. I’d rather have a dog any time.

TR, The experts think the actual numbers are about 8 times that reported. So thats about 100,000 cases. I don't think it will peak until the end of May. There are 4 suspected cases on this side awaiting results. One of them is a doctor from Riberas.

Really! Where did you see ehat about the suspected cases in our area? I've seen nada.

Edited to add: my neighbors are also getting very frustrated with being confined with no end in sight. So much so that I am now seeing less masks and more people walking around again. Don't know where they're going but they are leaving home and walking toward centro in small clusters. About 50% masked.

Just saw a foreigner guy on Mexpat Guad asking for a place to get tested around Zapopan.

Hopefully the Dra. reports back her results. She probably saw a bunch of patients before her symptoms became known.
