Re: More on the virus
This morning there are 2143 cases in Mexico and recovered patients is a higher percentage than most other nations and mortality rates are lower. The numbers don’t make sense so I think they are making them up just like China did.

Re: More on the virus
Covid19info.live shows 634 recovered and a death rate of 4.4%. That rate isn't lower than most. The average is 5.5% but those numbers are skewed by a few double digit death rate countries.

My concern is the actual numbers. Those other countries started sooner and Mexico is a late starter so the recovery rate should lag more.

Sunday's update from Dr. López-Gatell. Itś in Spanish but in the first part there are lots of graphics to see. Puebla and Tabasco show larger numbers than I noted in my post above. The updates have also been carried on Foro TV (Televisa) www.forotv.mx and Milenio www.milenio.com at 7 PM.

True but China had a fast climbing recovery rate too. If you believe their numbers. Mexico may have started way sooner than we think.

The fact seems to be that the more information we get about the virus and the more we realize we know nothng..

Re: More on the virus
Well my biggest concern is our area and I hope the local authorities are up front when it hits here. There really shouldn't be anything to hide since they are already discouraging visitors to come here. I know they don't want to cause panic but IMO a little panic will keep people in place. I'm using a mask whenever I go out but I still see many (both gringos and Mexicans) who are not. It definitely appears now that no one is safe. It doesn't discriminate on age like was first thought. It does seem to kill more men than women.

Re: More on the virus
Crazy. Hopefully business is so slow it won't be worth it. Letting people gather in those tightly packed spaces is nuts this soon into the game. Some vendors go into the abastos in Guadalajara. That is like Wuhans wet market in some areas there.

Yes.
If they start up the tianguis again it will be due to public pressure. It's the cheapest place to buy food and people will flock to it again.
Where did you hear that, SD? I havent seen anything . . .

Sorry I can't copy the link. It is on the Chapala gov site. Also on the TOB. There is a copy of the notification.

Re: More on the virus
Why are so many people bung up on accurate numbers, could be 10,20, or 50 pct. higher but does that change anything about how we are supposed to go about our daily lives right now. I don´t know how anyone, and I mean anyone, could have totally accurate figures with all the intangibles and possible reporting errors that could occur from different parts of the country.
You are asking for the impossible.

Re: More on the virus
Mexico is reporting 2439 confirmed cases this morning. 125 deaths. That's a rise of almost 300 since yesterday. It has doubled in the past week which is following in the footsteps of many other countries which doubled every week or less.

Here’s a CNN report on coroners being unable to determine the cause of death of the bodies they receive because tests are unavailable.

Re: More on the virus
Read a few personal reports this morning but chose not to provide links as it is depressing and the reports are available elsewhere if you want to dig.
Recap:
Radiology Tech friend on the front lines says virus pt's xrays show patchy infiltrates and what looks like ground glass.
Many states, including Jalisco, are reporting attacks on health-care workers in uniform. Docs, nurses, etc. Hospitals advising not to wear uniforms in public. Didn't see anything as bad as Ecuador.
NYC has so many dead that normal services are no longer able to provide. Bellevue, and other hospitals, have 18 wheelers parked out back full of cadavers with no way in the works to deal with them.
A woman wrote that one family in her apt building had a family member die and can't get rid of the body. There are children in the apartment. They called funeral homes, the ones who actually answered the phone said they were full and not able to help. Crematorium not answering the phone getting voice mail. Repeated calls to the police were answered with they couldn't help and had no solutions for the family.
God bless NYC.

Re: More on the virus
This is where the press can be proactive and show readers that we are all in this together and we all have to do our part. There are many ways to bring out patriotism in the citizens of Mexico and television and the press should be at the forefront of this.

With the US closing in on half a million confirmed cases they are lightyears ahead of any other country. Why is that. Do half still believe it is a hoax and not taking it seriously?
They have almost 1/3 of the entire worlds infections.

I don’t understand it either. They have high concentration of population but so does Mexico City and MC hasn’t taken off like I would have expected.

Meanwhile, Trump's "advisors" on Fox news are reportedly encouraging him to end the closures and open up the economy.

Re: More on the virus
Well they may have 1/3 of the world infection.. they may be doing ore tests.. Each country has their own protocol so it is hard to compare.. I believe Mexico is under reporting not because they want to cbe low but because they do not test people.. France also does not test people unless they are seriously ill or have some conditions... It is very hard to compare.
In San Cristobal de las Casas, the Real de Guadalupe andador was empty today 3 restaurants were opene and they had about 10 customers between the 3. no masks of course. The other andador had more people but it was also pretty empty. The indigenous were selling fabric masks.. I think their Chinese cnnections moved from the ugly handbags to masks but no one was buying or wearing them.. A few more people are wearing masks.. but it is far away from the majority.
In the indigenous market next to my house they were much more people and still very few masks.
The cases are gong up ..slowly but surely.

This web site seems to tell it like it is. At the top it writes of a hospital in Baja that has 42 workers testing positive for corona.

Re: More on the virus
Mexico likely has higher numbers than reported but we still aren't hearing any reports of overrun hospital's or morgues like we see in the countries that are truly swamped.

Someone mentioned on the OB that doctors are going on WhatsApp to express their frustrations and unable to report anything going against the government narrative.
