I know, I was speaking more to your Manzanillo comment. I guess Cd Guzman is close enough to the state line that it isn't being affected either?

I remember the shortages of the 70's. The sky did not fall in, but the price of gasoline tripled - which is what the Saudis insisted upon. Or else they were going to dump their oil on the market at a ridiculously low price. That would bring profits crashing down. So all the big oil companies said, "Well certainly, we can raise the price (and raise our profits). No problem!" That's when the shortages began. This was confirmed to me years later by the Exxon Vice President of Distribution for the Midwestern United States one slightly drunken night in my back yard. He was a friend and neighbor.
There are no Saudis involved here; just Pemex and the government of Mexico. They learned the lesson very well. The lesson is create a shortage. Start a panic. Then raise the price. People will be glad to pay anything to get their gas back.

Are you saying that the current government is in league with Pemex to create an artificial shortage in order to soften up the public for a price increase???
Interesting.

Re: Gasoline Shortage
IMO, that isn't the case. Me thinks El Presidente is trying to save billions of pesos. Sorry to say, probably wil save the pesos but at a great cost.
For what isn't costing to truck gasoline around the country, I would suggest military vehicles with sharpshooters patrol the pipelines (I have no idea if this is realistically possible), and drop anyone seen stealing gas.
What would YOU do to stop the thefts?

There is no gas shortage, Gringal, only a distribution problem while the Presidente tries to control one aspect of the country's corruption.
I agree, shoot to kill would work.

Re: Gasoline Shortage
Here's a story about Pemex execs getting charged for gas theft and money laundering as a part of this whole thing.
https://au.news.yahoo.com/three-pemex-execs-tried-fuel-theft-mexico-173734896--spt.html
Now I saw somewhere last night that they have the military in place along the pipeline to Guadalajara and will be opening it up for a while to get caught up. I can't find an article on it but hopefully it's a fact.

I would use drones to patrol the pipelines and have the army standing by with helicopters to respond to a problem area. Just a thought. Does the Mexican army have drones?

I'm sure every army has drones now. Take it one step further and equip the drones with lethal firepower.....

Gas shortage
I went past 8 different gas stations before noon today from Jocotepec to San Antonio-all were closed but some had long hope lineups.

Re: Gasoline Shortage
On the Mexican news tonight the Secretaria de Hacienda announced that the huachicoleros, corrupt Pemex management and employees, illegal gasolinera sales of stolen product, and corrupt politicians have cost Pemex 45 billion dollars that has been laundered over the last two years.
A little pain now, but at least someone has recognized the problem and starting to do something.

And yet, there are those arguing that the problem is that Pemex hasn't been privatized; since then, the stockholders would be outraged and holding any crooks feet to the fire. Whether that computes or not is a matter of opinion.
(Think Wells Fargo bank's stockholders)

Re: Gasoline Shortage
Well if it was all private there may not be any gasoline now as they would just shut the door and leave the mess behind. Being private certainly doesn't preempt you from theft and cartel trouble...….think mining.

Probably. I don't think it would really matter since the problem involves both inside and outside crooks as well as former govt. collusion and payoffs. What AMLO is doing may have been on the rash side, but the suddenness had the positive advantage of not giving the crooks enough warning to prepare.

Re: Gasoline Shortage
Yep and you will notice that the private companies (BP, Shell, etc.) have not yet even excersized their right to import their own gas. They are still buying from Pemex. Any guesses why?

Yes, Viva AMLO!!! We are living in very interesting Mexican times as the one and only politician, AND most of the people, try to turn this ship around. Muy valiente!
OTOH, have you all been following the Chapo trial? Big fingers, and witnesses testifying, pointing at EPN with proof that he took 100 million US bribe from Chapo! No wonder he was squirming like a worm on a hook during AMLO's inauguration speech! lol

Re: Gasoline Shortage
Lol.....yeah I saw that. They won't likely do anything about it though. They would have to go after every President since the Mexican revolution.
Now if everyone wants to help alleviate the gas shortage stop lining up every time a fuel truck shows up unless you absolutely have to.

Calderon would take a fall as well, they have implicated him too. He and his friggin' militaristic war on drugs with tens of thousands of lives lost and turning Mexico into a bloody graveyard - while he took mega-money from Chapo! Nice legacy.
I agree, CB, my car is parked until it's over. And I'm getting healthier too! Leave the gas for the people trying to work. If the tianguis, abarrrotes, and tiendas can't get deliveries from asbastos . . . we won't have food.
