Gasoline Shortage
I have recently moved to GDL in the last month, Now All the gas stations here are out of gas. If you find one with gas there is a 2 hour wait, at least. How is gas supply in Aijijic?

Snother reports says that 23 stations out of over 500 are out of gas. No need to panic.

Re: Gasoline Shortage
This morning only premium gas was available in the few places I checked locally.
12 states now have shortages inlcuding Jalisco. Guadalajara had long lines for gas today.
The gas pipelines have been shut down in many places and gas is being brought in in tankers which is much slower.
This is a plan to curb the stealing of gas from the pipelines.

Re: Gasoline Shortage
They only had Roja available yesterday at the station in Ajijic. This is the same situation as last January, the January before that, the January before that, etc., etc. The so called "shortage" is usually followed by a price increase......

That's just to keep the business on this side of the border.

For those who haven't read the articles, AMLO has shut down some of the pipelines that are being tapped and gas is being delivered by tanker trucks. The old fashioned way. It causes delivery to slow down. I believe this will be the case for awhile, so fill up when you can. Or don't drive much, thereby killing 2 birds with one stone.

Re: Gasoline Shortage
Similar story to last year and the year before that, etc...….of course the names were different but it was all blamed on cartel theft or protesters, etc.

There were lines at the gas station in Jocotopec yesterday. San Juan Cosala had only a few cars but more than normal. I filled up.

AMLO says he is sending guards or army to protect the pipeline so that the problem is temporary. As Trailrunner mentions using the tankers truck slows down the delivery..

While I am no where near supporting sharia law, in some instances and in some countries,IMO, some laws are much too lenient. Rape by violence, should be punishable with castration; and occasionally, if a thief is caught, some punishment other than a slap on the wrist should be in order.
As I recall, one "leader" in Mexico, maybe it was a state leader, told the police to shoot-to-kill pipeline thief. Probably happened now --unofficially.

Re: Gasoline Shortage
Actually, the Pemex guys in Riberas said to get gas in the morning because they get their deliveries overnight. I went around 9 this morning, got gas and they said they had plenty of gas.
I was disappointed that nobody mentioned castration, Sharia Law, or rape or anything like that. .

So now I mentioned it.
IMO, the duty of a government and the people elected is to the people, but this seems to have been forgotten.

"in the state of Puebela.
It was the most gruesome thing she ever saw. One of the victims was split wide open from the throat to his belly. Before the men with machetes saw her, she slipped into a tank of water that stood by the road, submerged herself up to her nose and waited until it was dark. Something awful was happening in Palmar de Bravo. She could hear gunfire and screaming from points all over town, and big trucks were continually tearing past her hiding place. Thirty minutes after night fell she climbed out of the tank and padded home soaking wet, taking a roundabout way through the fields to her house, where she found her 20-odd family members locked inside, terrified. The rampage continued past midnight, the men in armored trucks marauding around town, “slaughtering people like animals,” she says, shooting up houses and ransacking businesses. Before leaving, the attackers gathered up most of the bodies and took them away."
How do you stop this?

Re: Gasoline Shortage
Very interesting article. We travel a lot through Puebla state and the area has become more and more unsafe. I deal with guys with pick up truck who brng merchandise from Chiapas to Guadalajara an they tell me to never go between Orizaba and Puebla after 9PM as the gangs aided by the police take over the highway and assault trucks, steal pick up and merchandise ..
I never made the connection between the cans of gas sold on the side of the road and the stolen gas. In Chiapas if you travel the back roads in the highlands and in the jungle there are no gas stations in indigenous town and all the gas you can buy is sold out of plastic cans.. I wonder if all that gas is stolen.. Knowing that these guys will buy the cheapest they can find , I would not be surprised..the size of the problem is mind boggling.

Re: Gasoline Shortage
More than likely stolen gas. I thought that when I saw it there a few years ago on my visit to Chiapas. They have to sell all that stolen gas somewhere.

Re: Gasoline Shortage
According to the papers they sell it to franchises and this is why Moreno has introduced or is introducing a law to cancel the franchise for 15 years if they use stolen gas.. Yes I have a feeling that all the gas sold in the communities is stolen but thenI do not know because there are no gas station on indigenous land so they could also buy the gas from stations .. If the stations have stolen gas or not , it is another question.I have never seen pick-ups with gas on the highways from Tabasco tankers yes but pick-up no..so I have no clue how the gas gets to those cans... I am going to keep my eyes open because I am curious now..

The majority of stations in Guadalajara have no gas, few do and they run out fast.

Re: Gasoline Shortage
I'm all for shutting down the cartel activity however I do wonder if they gave a lot of thought to this new strategy. Unless you plan on never using the pipelines again or coming up with a way to protect them they will just go back to stealing as soon as the pipelines are back in service. You won't starve them out. They should have ensured there was enough tanker transport available before implementing this plan IMO. Good thing the cartel wasn't stealing food...…..

Re: Gasoline Shortage
I guess its the unseen consequences of panic buying...How many people remember the gas shortages in the 70"s in the US.....Much inconvenience but the sky did not fall in,,....maybe in the longer term the money saved from the stealing etc can contribute to building refineries in Mexico
