Tabarka - new location
I see Tabarka is opening a new location on Ramon Corona just north of the LCS. It is going where that Argentinian restaurant was. The sign says opening in 2017. That will be a nice addition to the neighborhood. We are getting some really good restaurants around here.
Hopefully MC and company don't protest it........

So, it's going just below where La Una was (on the same side of the street)? I had heard David was going to open there for the month of December as well, but obviously it probably got delayed due to any renovations needed. Can't wait to check it out!
Oh, and if MC and his cronies want to protest it, they can bite my shorts!

It is the block below La Una. Its two doors up from the LCS almost across from the old Simply Thai.

Re: Tabarka - new location
We ate there a few days ago, and the chef/owner (David?) told us it would open in January.

Excellent. I like that location (but never enjoyed any of the other restaurants that occupied it). If anyone can succeed there it's David A.

Re: Tabarka - new location
Does anyone know if this is a second location or is he just moving to this location?

David told us he was closing the current location and moving to the new one. I didn't ask about another location. Doesn't Tabarka have a smaller place across from Superlake?

Either way it will be great to have him in the neighborhood. His seafood dishes/tapas are awesome and there really isn't any other good seafood in the immediate vicinity (IMO).

Re: Tabarka - new location
I love Tabarka and David as well, I will see him tomorrow and ask for an update on the move. He's excited about the location but I wonder about parking. . . How big is that property? Can it accommodate parked cars?
Don't think the place across from SL is still happening. He said it was hard on quality control to cook elsewhere and ship it to another location.
The owner of the property where Tabarka is wants to turn the restaurant into more condos as they are more profitable. David will land on his feet, he's just that kinda guy, and I imagine the new restaurant will be excellent too.

Re: Tabarka - new location
There is no parking on the property. There is only street parking. There is also a ton of foot traffic with all the hotels and B&B's in the vicinity. Lack of parking has no effect on the good places (Tango, Cocinart, Pasta Trenta, Jus Chillin).

And the main reason I rarely eat in any of those places is - parking and congestion. They are fortunate they can make a living off the village people who walk.

Re: Tabarka - new location
A lot of people that go into the village for dinner or other things park along the malecon, then walk to where they need to go. Plenty of parking down there!

Re: Tabarka - new location
One of the reasons people choose to live in Ajijic village. No car necessary.

David said the restaurant will open Jan 2.
He is also opening a taco restaurant across from SuperLake soon.

Re: Tabarka - new location
Thanks for checking it out and getting the scoop from David, Trailrunner. It is good news bad news for me. He will be quite a bit closer for me but then there is the finding parking problem at the new location.

If you park at the malecon, it's only one block up and one block over.....not too bad!

You need to understand this from the point of view of someone who does not live in Ajijic. Get through traffic on narrow, one-way streets; find parking at malecon hoping curly-headed thug is not around; walk up to restaurant and then walk back to car; get through more Ajijic traffic; and both coming and going hope traffic on carreterra is not crawling, bumper to bumper. I have to REALLY want to eat at a restaurant to go through all that. Eventually I will want to eat at Tabarka enough to do it but it will never be a casual go-out-to-lunch decision as other places are.

I'm with you Lady. I don't drive into the Village unless I absolutely must. My blood pressure stays down that way.

Yep parking and navigating in Ajijic can be interesting but I find superlake and area to be much worse including a car keying for no reason. If you think the streets are small in Ajijic we just got back from Cartegena Columbia in the walled city and on most streets no room for parking on either side. So it can be worse. We do strongly suggest a visit to Cartegena but you don't need a car or want one.

I'm like you and Flamingo! I probably go into central Ajijic four or five times a year. Nada mas! I avoid it like the plague. The crowds, the congestion, higher prices, the parking, the mirrors and keying damage if you park too close to LCS and get unlucky. And the LAST place I want to be cruising around looking for my car late at night is the lake front or malecon area!
David is aware of all this and feels bad but his back was up against the wall and he had to find a good place for his business and for his family to live. He said the new place is beautiful, large garden, lots of fruit trees. . So he took it. I will also eventually make it into Ajijic to see the new place and eat David's wonderful food, it IS my favorite restaurant, and I guess I'll try parking up on one of the side streets up above the restaurant. Will probably go for lunch or comida instead of dinner too.

Re: Tabarka - new location
Well David's potential lunch clients can be the hundreds of LCS guests that brave the perils and drive in every day. I do wish they would all leave their friggin cars at home though.....jajaja.
BTW......after about 3:00pm (other than the weekends) when the LCS is closed there is plenty of parking all over the place.

Excellent point, CBob. Late lunch at Tabarka will be the way to go for the rest of us.
Trailrunner, did he mention what his hours will be in the new location?
