Tabarka
Where is Hotel La Joya del Lago??? Tabarka is moving the restaurant there, David is excited he will have space for a garden and can grow produce for both restaurants.
PROXIMAMENTE!!!

Re: Tabarka
Go to the old Tabarka site and turn towards the lake, head down a few blocks and you'll see it on your right.

LOL...I'm sure there are very few people on this forum who knew Billy Moon....a name that has far outlived the persona.

Re: Tabarka
I have often wondered what happened to Billy Moon. I walked down and visited his "space" (taller) because I stayed at the Danza del Sol when I came down to check out the area in January of '96.
Anybody know?
So, when will the Tabarka be open at its new location? Hope it will be quieter than the highway location. And, I REALLY hope that they organize their menu offerings in a more logical manner than having to quiz the waiters about everything.

David's really excited about the move. New location is all the way down that street, almost to the lake. Street names are a blur to me, but I think it's Rio ZULA. (EDIT)
I also remember when we first moved here I had trouble looking at his printed menu. Now I don't even bother. I just ask him what I should eat and he brings it. Always been happy, he knows better than I do.

Last I heard, many years ago and it's a great story, that he was living in a cave in India, learning to become a "holy man".
His "factory" was, and Tabarka to be, are located on calle Rio Zula, which is what Rio Bravo turns into once you cross the eje, which is calle Ocampo.

Actually I checked and he is living in China. He is associated with a company called Uttermost and seems to be successful.

Re: Tabarka
Lady who bought the Billy Moon property and turned it into rental units told me he has travelled a bit, doing exactly the same kind of goods, and ended up in (as Trailrunner's research disclosed) Bali. Still doing exactly the same kind of goods.

Re: Tabarka
It looks like the Villa in Bali has been closed for a few years. Check it out, I didn't read the whole thing but go to the Villa site and try to make a reservation and you'll see.
It does look like he's been doing the same thing tho, he is so talented and has such exquisite taste.

Re: Tabarka
Just drove out there after lunch. That Moon property is something else!!
Would someone who knows the history there please pass it on.....?
We did find the place where Tabarka is going, about another block toward the lake. Looks like a nice location.......no road noise would be good. Love their food.

You must have looked at something wrong as the "old" Billy Moon property is almost directly across the street from the new Tabarka location....which was once the Bill Asher property which is a novel in itself.
My family has owned the property directly south of the old Moon property for over 30 years....what do you want to know? Like when there wasn't any cobbled street south of Ocampo...only an eroded cow trail.
In the old days that area was called "El Sauz"...(the willows). Billy Moon then, was located in the building that houses the donut shop on the carretera across from F. G. His business grew and he bought the property on Rio Zula and built a factory....late 1980's maybe, can't remember for sure as it was a long time ago.

Yes, good conversations are like that. . .
So, Slainte, what happened then? I know lots of partying and fun and a good successful design business etc but then what made it all go away? Did he sell the property and get the money or is it still for sale? I thought when they left here it was to move to Bali.

Re: Tabarka
I guess I'm confused here. The "Moon" I'm referring to is a huge building down Rio Zula with more property for sale next to it. Big "Moon" word carved into the entry. No connection with Billy? Any stories about that huge empty property?
