La Mision
I just returned from dining at La Mision and the food and service were both top-notch. During the last few months I've had the salmon, tuna, chicken and shrimp as well as the clam chowder in a bread bowl and everything has been delicious. Besides being the most beautiful restaurant in the area, the food is great!

Re: La Mision
We all have our favorite restaurants, so I'm glad you had a good meal and like the decor.
On TOB, La Mision has been heavily advertising a $500 peso (per person) dinner with piano music by Galen, and they claim they are a sellout. Reservations only.
Has anyone been to one of these events? Was it worth the price?
That price level would keep me away, but then, I'm verra thrifty. For about half that price, I can get a fine prime rib or salmon dinner elsewhere.

Re: La Mision
What does that post have to do with the original question about those $500 pesos dinner events?

I was giving you information that there is a wonderful menu at the restaurant for those who are thrifty.

I know that. Are you one of the restaurant owners or investors?
Now, can you perhaps give us an answer to the question I asked?

Re: La Mision
Galen's concerts are very entertaining. He uses a band and always features a female vocalist. The food is excellent, the wine ever flowing. I am not an owner or investor, just a retiree and definitely think the evening is worth the price.

Prime rib....where?
Six of us went to Arileo for their prime rib special a month ago, and five ordered prime rib. All agreed, never again as it was awful. Liquid smoke or some other disgusting additive.
Bruno's occasionally has prime rib (hit or miss), but is closed now.
Outback (Galerias Mall, not Andares ) is about as good as it gets for me.
Havn't tried La Mision.

Re: La Mision
As stated above you are paying not only for food and all the wine you can drink, but for an evening of entertainment.

Haven't had the prime rib at Arileo's. Too much food on that special for me. I like their filet brochette and their salmon.
If you do go for the prime rib at la Mision, please report opinion.
Now that I hear the "special" includes unlimited wine at La Mision, I'm very curious about what brand they are pouring?

Re: La Mision
Probably won't get to La Mision as it's hyped too much for me, and I'm already disappointed before I get there.
Unlimited wine is a non starter for me also, and I don't care what brand they are pouring.
Still wondering where your fine prime rib was, or is possible, to find.

" For about half that price, I can get a fine prime rib or salmon dinner elsewhere." Note: "I can get" isn't the same as "I have eaten". I haven't had a prime rib anywhere for many long years........so I may have misled the readers. Salmon; yes.
Bet the prime rib isn't bad at Number Four, though and probably in Guadalajara at some of their finest.
La Mision is annoying in their endless hype. Over on TOB, they post under the restaurant thread and post again at the same time under "upcoming events". Now, that's just a bit much. Gag.

Re: La Mision
gag indeed, sorta like all the exciting yard sales posted on here in 2 forums and sometimes even 3. a yard sale ain't no "event" unless it's to support a charity or something worthwhile.gringal wrote:

Maybe some smart mod will come up with a definition of "event". Can't wait.

LOL...Boy, you are really are into the word parsing frame of mind today.
Note: I would never accuse you of eating prime rib or imply that in my posts, as I do realize that "eating and getting" is not the same. Just wondered where you could get it.
I haven't tried it at no. 4/cuatro/whatever it's called now, or previous ownership, but know someone(s), that has and it didn't get good reviews, on the contrary, not so good and expensive. That's why I have negative view of La Mision before even trying it.
The only good/decent prime rib at lakeside was when Howard and Yolanda had their restaurant in Roca Azul some years back and it was a super meal with a Yorkshire pudding, baked potato, salad bar, and their home made desserts when the berry business was just starting up in Jocotepec. Or we could go further back to the 70's and 80's when the Chalet Gourmet on Av Las Americas, in Guadalajara, was THE place to go for prime rib, but I shouldn't live in the good ol' days.

If I can find a restaurant with a consistently good prime rib.......that would be an event (big time), for me.

Re: La Mision
Yep, sometimes a "lawyer" type gene comes crawling out to parse away, or maybe too many Jesuits teaching me how to crawl out of verbal trouble. Guilty as charged.
But, by all means let's hear it for "the good old days" when you could order abalone and get some at the price of a decent steak. This, along with many other things that are no more. Still, when I moved to Ajijic in the mid 2000's,
our choices in dining were pitifully limited if we didn't want to drive to Guadalajara, so today's variety of eateries are a huge improvement, IMO.
You'd think some enterprising soul would put out a "good old days" kind of prime rib dinner you were describing...........I'd be happy to pay a pricey tab. (They can hold the "evenings entertainment", though.)

Re: La Mision
Well, damn. As if it wasn't torture enough to be reminded of Prime Rib with Yorkshire Pudding…..later I see ABALONE mentioned in the same thread?!??!!!
Doesn't Bruno's still do Prime Rib one night a week? I've never tried it, but they usually get things right.

No matter how you slice it. The food at La Mision is not worth the price.

Ehhhh....usually, but sometimes it gets a little overloaded on the fat or the portions are not always the same. Prime rib aficionados always expect perfection. No room for error.
Yorkshire pudding has the nasty habit of soaking up all the juice from the rib.....YEAH!!

Re: La Mision
Perfection: aka dreams of big city life re prime ribs I have known and loved.
Big old-time leather booths with high backs so you have the illusion of privacy and the seats cradle your body.
Meaningless music, low enough that you can hear your table companions.
Waitpersons who wait until you've had a chance to take a bite before they pounce and ask "is everything satisfactory?".
A fine salad with Roquefort dressing, fresh and crispy......or a well tended salad bar.
Baked potato loaded with stuff that makes you taste buds cheer and your arteries clog.
Big slice of medium rare beef in which the center is juicy and tender.
(No yorkshire pudding, on my serving).
Ooops! I'm awake now. The cohetes are celebrating the day.

So what happened to the "au jus" on your plate?
I forgot to mention the most important part of a prime rib dinner.......a good, strong home made horse radish that brings tears to your eyes and causes a shortness of breath. Great utility training for all of us who will succumb in the end to heart failure.

The au jus in that food porn? You know that good bread or rolls that comes with? Sopped.
If you dial that horse radish down a notch or so, serve me up a side of that.
