Swarm
A swarm is needed... I do not know where or why.
I only know that we have not had one for a while.
Suggestions?

Re: Swarm
I am pretty busy at the moment however if someone wants to take the lead and put it together then by all means please do so. It would be called Swarm 23.
Re: Swarm
Laura's Kitchen close to the old Tabarka's. Wonderful food.
I've attended one swarm and it was not pleasant at all. Two of us ladies walked to Mario's in San Antonio. We were barely acknowledged by anyone and had to sit at a table removed from everyone else. Perhaps 3 people eventually said hello on their way out. Why would anyone except the same old crowd want to attend?

Re: Swarm
That was the only swarm I ever attended. We got there a bit late and sat in a table off by itself. We walked around and said hello to people at other tables and visited in the buffet line. A few people chatted in passing our table. I did not feel slighted or left out. I think a swarm is what you make it.
Also, that was the largest turnout of almost any swarm ever due to people wanting to support Augustine after his long shutdown due to road work. Also, Jim W was in town and some people came to visit with him. Other swarms have fewer people and I would think those are more conducive to socializing for those who are there for that.

Re: Swarm
I went to an early swarm about 3 years ago, I believe. It was at Johnny's Mama's Bar before Johnny left these shores. Everyone sat around at tables like they were glued to their chairs and no one talked to us or even looked at us. I am adept at meeting and greeting, but one cannot very well sit down at at a full table of people who are just sitting there and not talking or even looking at each other. Tell me this has changed and that will be me hanging out at the bar. BTW it would be good to schedule this for late afternoon--not sure what you had in mind, but I get very grouchy about bad drivers here in the evening. I was out a couple of nights ago and some idiot GDL woman in a lovely new Audi was driving thru the parking lots near SL at speed, crossed in front of me and headed back up the side road on the other side, at speed. Well, it made me feel like a good driver, maybe that was her role in the play. But I do not like driving at night. Must practice my Spanish before I do that; I do not know nearly enough epithets and pithy remarks. But maybe that is a good thing. I always "forget" those Spanish epithets I have heard and I put on my halo before I go out.

Re: Swarm
I live in Guadalajara and haven't been to any swarms but I had a very good time at the "Board Meeting" held at Jim W's house a couple of years ago,it was a friendly bunch and I enjoyed meeting them.

Well, you've hit upon it. Let's have a "bored meeting." I am among the perpetually bored. Yawn!

When expressing my displeasure with some of the moves drivers in Guadalajara make I usually go with PUERCO/PUERCA or BABOSO/BABOSA, depending on their gender,or you can just flip them the bird, everybody everywhere understands that.

Re: Swarm
I do not make gestures here, altho I am frequently tempted! Well, one does make judgments, n'est pas? She looked Guadalajaran and was driving a nice car, a new Audi. Sans doubt, you folks who are female and driving a new Audi and driving madly will let me know if it was you; we could have lunch. There it is: If you are female and Guadalajaran and drive a new Audi, please let me know--I have a good therapist.

Re: Swarm
Well, about how many people attend a Swarm? I haven't gone for years because I just hate the "table plop" of large lunches.
However I am adept at hosting a crowd. With seating and a lot of movement. Most people don't like to do a crowd but we don't mind.
So if you'd want to Swarm one afternoon later in Feb and we agree to get a couple trays of ribs, slaw, and whatever etceras from Rey over in Chapala.
I am game. I would like to meet some of you.

What you proposing is a Board Meeting. We have not had one since Jim W blew town. That could be fun.

Re: Swarm
And you are inviting whom??? Bored meeting for what? Can I actually drive my Honda FIT to this meeting or do I need a motorcycle? Me, I do not drive a motorcycle (you knew that!), atho I certainly rode on the back of one in my misspent youth. So, do I need to find someone to provide a ride via motorcycle? This could be much fun.

Re: Swarm
Either Swarm or Meeting. Since I am not in the heart of the forum members my wish would be for a casual meet and greet in the near future. The offer stands.

Re: Swarm
"Swarm" is a specific activity that began as a way to help restaurants well liked and struggling after the May Troubles. The purpose remains as a way to boost businesses or help new ones get exposure to more people.
I am not sure about the Bored Meetings. Those seem to fall into the CBob/Jim W purview.
So Meet and Greet it is. How do you see it happening?

Re: Swarm
A swarm is a restaurant gathering, a bored meeting is a house party/meet & greet where all the members are invited.
