Does anyone know if it's best to buy new tires here in Mexico or in the US? I have both options and am looking for good quality tires.

My 80k Michelins that I bought at Costco in the US lasted a little over 40k here. Got a good price tho ;) Didn't want to drive from the beach to the Guad Costco just to see if the warranty was covered

I doubt those Michelins were rated for 80K "cobblestone and pothole" kilometers.......jaja.

I didn't find the tires here to be any more expensive than Canada. In fact, they usually charged you extra for installation and balancing back there.

Remember that in the US and Canada tax is added after. The combined rate in Ontario is 13% so not much different. Add to that the cost of getting them here and having them istalled.

I find the Goodyear store near Soriana in Chapala has good prices, good stock and good service.

No sales tax in Oregon, Montana and a few other states thus my post. I always negotiate the price with mounting and balancing included.
I am happy with my Brazil made goodyears on my Nissan Micra. Mexico has some good prices on there brands. Much cheaper than Goodyears
but I was not familiar with the Mexican brands at the time. After driving my roommates Nissan March on Mexican tires I would save the money
and buy a Mexican brand. Tires feel the same as the goodyears and were 1/3 cheaper.

Well there you have it. No need to drive to Oregon to save that 16% (about $45 bucks).

Thanks everyone - it's a car I want to buy for use in the US and the owners are willing to buy new tires so I'm just shopping for the best deal. It's here now and going to the US so where isn't important. Sounds like a toss up.

I'd be more concerned to replace them before making the trip NOB if they are getting way down.

Yes I would feel better if they got them here since they are driving the car through Mexico.
