Jalisco driver license Empty Jalisco driver license

Post by Berto Sat Nov 17, 2012 5:33 pm

Can someone please post specifics of getting a Jalisco Drivers License?
  • Where to do it (need English not Spanish language)
  • What documents are needed - and originals or copies?
  • Cost
  • If there's any lag between passing test & getting license.

My wallet was lost today... need to get license PRONTO

Thanks!

Berto, don't know if you need a replacement Jalisco license or a new one, but look under the Legal section and there's a whole thread about it.

The cost for a chofer's license (pickup) was, i think, 494 pesos. The cost for a automobile license is maybe 100 pesos less.

And, no, there's no lag between passing the written, eye, and driving/parking test and getting your license.

Be prepared for a long wait at the Chapala office. It took us four hours for a renewal.

Already saw that thread on the legal section. It's a clusterf*ck; and contains only a subset of the information I'm looking for .
If someone has all the information I asked for, it'd be great to post it here in ONE PLACE rather than having to sort through a bunch of posts and try to make sense of them - like I spent the first 40 minutes doing before I posted this thread.

While I can understand you being a bit stressed by the loss of wallet - are you not being a bit Me-Me when demanding a simple answer? There are so many things in Mexico that require a learning curve and a bit of personal effort!

CG - When you ask a question, would you prefer a simple answer? Or would you prefer to look around across 20 board posts and try to derive some sense of what the answer MIGHT be?
Nowhere in any post on this board is the LOCATION of a testing center. There is conflicting information as to what documents are necessary to apply.

I gather, from your number of posts, that you might enjoy hanging out on the boards... and that's a fine choice for you. But please don't judge me because I'm here just looking for a simple, concise answer to a question.

Jalisco driver license Empty Re: Jalisco driver license

Post by lucky Sun Nov 18, 2012 12:47 pm

When I got my first Mexican driver's license a couple of weeks ago, this is the documentation that I needed:

CURP
FM3
Passport
Proof of residency
Proof of payment for license

and copies thereof.

Since my Telmex and CFE bills are in the name of my landlords, not me, I had to go to City Hall in Joco (where I live) and get a certificate of residency, for which I needed a small photo and the CFE bill that the driver's license people would not accept!

The driver's license office in Riberas has been closed for many months. The driver's license office is now located in Chapala on Degollado. Because of street work when I went there, I had to take a roundabout way. But I believe you can get to the office by (assuming you are coming from west of Chapala) going through the stoplight on the main street in Chapala. Go down to the American Legion and turn left on the one-way street there.

Degollado is a couple of blocks up. The entrance to the driver's license office in a little way west of the corner. (You will probably see some Vialidad trucks parked in the area.)

The office is open from 9AM until 1PM for licenses, Monday through Friday, although they will probably be closed tomorrow (19 November) for Dia de Revolution.

I actually paid for my license BEFORE I went to the driver's license office, because I came across one of the tax offices before I found the driver's license office. The tax office is on, I believe, Lopez Cotilla, about a block in from Christiana park.

For the chofer's license for my pickup, I paid 494 pesos. Automobile licenses are cheaper by maybe 100 pesos.

I had to take the "written" (i.e. computer) test which consisted of 10 multiple choice questions, all of course in Spanish, and I had no one to translate them for me....regardless of what the sign in the driver's license office says. And I had to take the driving and parallel parking test.

Berto, if you would just take the time to read my two blog posts about this, I pretty much answered all these questions except where exactly the driver's license office is located.

For proof of where you live if you own the property the electric bill will do if
you rent you have to get the original lease and utility bill make copies and
go to the Deligation building and get your papers. Took about 2 hours. Also
when you take your drivers test and back up don't forget to turn on your
emergency flashers. My wife said it wasn't bad other than proof of residency
which I explained above. She did not bribe at any time nor use a fixer to
get her license. You also need to practice your parellel parking skills.

In Ajijic you will need original lease and electric bill in your landlords name.
Lease will show your name. Make B&W copies of everything. My wife did
it a month ago.
