You are so STUPID Parker how do compare an annoyance that lasts a few hours at most to one that goes on for days, weeks and months, you truly are an idiot.and a child hater.Parker wrote:viajero wrote:Merry I like dogs but if you've ever lived next door to one that barked for hours on end in the middle of the night, well it's enough to drive you bonkers, and I blame the owner not the dog,the dog doesn't know any better but the owner should.
Everything in red is where substitutions for wording were replaced; Dogs for babies, owners for parents etc.
Viajero, I like babies but if you've ever flown next seat to one that cried for hours on end in the middle of the flight, well it's enough to drive you bonkers, and I blame the parents not the baby, the baby doesn't know any better but the parent should.
If it affects you it’s their problem and if it affects them it still their problem, hopefully one day you’ll grow up, what else can be said?

You are so angry "viajero" calling people so "STUPID" etc. Chill out. Things will be so much better if you do. The dogs won't sound as loud either.
May you have a great and relaxing day. Life is too short to always be angry

Out of respect to you I just did re-read your posts. I still see anger. And that is really sad.
I truly wish you the best. Just chill out.
What does it matter if not everyone agrees with either you or with me. It's a fact of life.

Re: Animal Shelter
Just a suggestion. As a foster home for a dog rescue organization here in Chicagoland, the best way to quiet the dogs from barking would be to adopt all of them to good loving homes. That would help keep them quiet. I realize that there are probably many more that are in the shelter than you could adopt out, but try. The health benefits of having a pet are proven and may provide far greater benefits than you could ever realize. Pat a dog and chill.

If you are the owner of a non stop barker are you deaf, drunk, on really good drugs, or not at at home? How could a owner just get used to it unless you have a unusually large property. I have donkeys real close a a bunch of neighboring dogs plus oodles of domestic cats and gun happy drunk revelers. I live in the country with substantial acrage. I can close my windows. I still am kept awake many nights. Ybut......... You have to adjust or move... There is no paradise anywhere on earth.. you must learn to adapt.,die or live in a cave somewhere in BFE if there is a place left on earth that qualifies esI still have a home in mx . So yea I still have ties.. I do know life in mx.

Senior MexicoPete, what is the business name of your neighbor "...who runs a B&B and has four loud barking dogs..."? We are often asked for referrals to area B&B's and hotels and want to give the most informed advise possible. Thanks!

Re: Animal Shelter
Hey. I wonder; could have a wall have been put up along the north property line facing the neighbors. Could such a structure have absorbed and or reflected at least 50% of the sound away from these 3 angry neighbors? Also I recently watched a TV program on barking dogs. It seemed that the shelters were able to lower the level of barking by playing, at a lower volume, sounds coming from a calm and happy dog or two. I can’t quite remember the exact sound, but it wasn't that of loud barking dogs.
And Bob, there are several B&Bs in my neighborhood, and they are doing as well as can be expected in this environment, all with repeat customers.

That's great news Pete, what's the name of the B&B with the 4 loud barking dogs?

My gosh look at the negative reaction from a few angry people about a few more barking dogs coming from the animal shelter. If I were to give you the name of the B&B, you and I know, that this info would be used for negative purposes and my understanding of this forum is that we should not do things like that on line.

The most difficult thing many gringos here deal with is animal abuse & neglect. Presently we have 8 rescue animals, only 2 from shelters...the rest we gathered up near our casa. Over the years we have managed to adopt out several others. Some like to explain it away as just the "Mexican culture." To hell with that. Animal abuse is non-excusable. Maybe Trailrunner would link the story on her blog about the colt with the broken leg. “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”..Mahatma Gandhi

Good for you GBATRUCKS, I'm down to 5 right now, because one past on. Once I get back to Mexico, I will increase that number.
Oh, I used to travel with my then one dog or pay to put it in a dog hotel. Now that I usually have at least 6, I found that it's much more economical to simply hire an employee to stay on the property and be not only a watchman but babysit my animals. Besides not living in the country anymore when up north, rather a condo in Seattle, I couldn't bring the animals up here anyway.

Uh no Pete, I didn't know it would be used for negative purposes and my understanding of this forum is we can freely share uncensored information. And if the information is so hush-hush why'd ya bring it up in the first place?

I brought up the subject of barking dogs, because that’s what they do.And that was what the person making the post was complaining about. Unlike some folks I choose not to name those who have such animals, rather if it were a problem and it’s not, I would work with those creating the problem, helping to solve the problem, rather than publicly attacking them. Heck my dogs bark too much some times. And I work to try to quiet them down
I’m sorry you are making such an issue about this. I could talk about the very loud music I hear in the distance sometime. But I choose not to. Neither the music nor the dogs are too loud for me. I have learned to adjust the the loud noise in Mexico, just like many others have. I’m sorry some haven’t.
Understand sometimes my dogs and my neighbors dogs bark too much too, and between all of us we have at least as many as the shelter has. We have learned how to live with each other. I’m sorry some others haven’t been able to. Maybe our dogs don’t bark as loud or as much I don’t know. If you want a name of someone who has loud barking dogs, use mine.

I believe that MexicoPete was speaking to this statement. If when determining a recommendation for a B&B this would be considered a negative selling point. IMHO

Can we please stay on the subject of the animal shelter being closed which means there are 10 good doggies looking for 10 good people...do you know of someone who would like to adopt? Can you put the word out ...lets focus on trying to do something postive and constructive.

Hey folks I still have two 8 mo old cats with shots and fixed. These came from a lady who had a stroke. One male nice guy but just likes to hang out near. One
female kinda siamese who is very sweet and need a lap. Hope we can find homes for all the animals!! These two cats make a nice pair or seperate.
End of commercial

That's the best way of getting a lot of action. The last little guy, a beautiful cocker, lasted only 2 hours before he had a new loving home.

Actually I blame the Catholic church as until fairly recent times they taught the mexicans that the animals have no soul so you can do whatever you want to them.
I have heard this over and over amoung folks down here. To be fair it is changing but I do blame the church for many attitudes down here.

I've always had the secret desire to borrow the unneutered strays on the streets, pay for neutering, and put them back where I found them. I'm not talking about dogs that are clearly NOT owned or not cared for. It's kinda like the Prime Directive but with a short transport to another planet and back.
Not sure if that would be ethical, legal, or even possible. Thoughts?

You know out in the country in tx. We have a lot of ferals my wife and I and a few animal lovers do exactly that . The country vets know us and give good deals on shots and fixes. Unless the cats pose a problem with chickens we leave them to hunt vermin, they pretty much are self sufficient.I have one spayed female that sleeps in the trees and recognizes hawks. The birds of prey in my area are plentiful. Right now I am keepimng 4 babies and not fixing my other f emale til she has a litter. My neighbors need cats too. Our pound last year didn't have enough cats. No free ones in the papers either. I guess the difference in the wild is a better balance vs. Cities and towns.where there are not as many predators. My cats are nowhere near starving or sick and yea for the most part are wild.

Re: Animal Shelter
The breeding season for most cats is from March to September, gestation about 8 weeks so the kitten season starts in earnest in May. Give it a few weeks and you won't have to breed more, Espiritu. The shelters know they go through this cycle every year.

“Main article: Cat health
The average life expectancy for male indoor cats at birth is around 12 to 14 years, with females usually living a year or two longer. However, there have been reports of cats reaching into their 30s, with the oldest known cat, Creme Puff, dying at a verified age of 38. Feline life expectancy has increased significantly in recent decades. Having a cat neutered or spayed confers some health benefits, since castrated males cannot develop testicular cancer, spayed females cannot develop uterine or ovarian cancer, and both have a reduced risk of mammary cancer. The lifespan of feral cats is hard to determine accurately, although one study reported a median age of 4.7 years, with a range between 0 to 8.3 years”
It appears that our feral cats don’t live nearly as long.
