Animal Shelter Closing

Just saw this on TOB. Wanted to get the word out to as many people as possible. In reading through the thread - looks like it is so and not just another rumor.

I was just at the animal shelter and was asked to forward this message.
The municipality has issued a permanent closure order to the Animal Shelter for dogs only, due to complaints about noise. A few of the puppies will be kept for a short time but all dogs must be out by Wed morning, June 16th.
Effective immediately, NO DOGS/PUPPIES will be accepted and as of Wed morning, only the remaining 5-6 puppies will be avialable for adoption.
They will continue the spay/neuter program for the Mexican pets and the assistance for the health emergencies for Mexican pets...thanks to the assistance of the Lakeside Friends of the Animals.
If you or anyone you know can take in another dog, please go to the shelter Tuesday.
Jeffrey asked that you continue to support the store in order to continue helping the remaining animals.

This is an emergency, the dogs must be placed by 2:00 on Tuesday afternoon as they are being forced to close at 9:00 Wednesday morning by the Municipal Government. They had 15 dogs at 1:00 this afternoon and have placed 5 or 6 in foster homes. We still need foster OR, BETTER YET, forever homes for 9 or 10 dogs. Elsie is available as is Tequila, a small black, female chihuahui. We also have Roco, a beautiful Lab/Golden mix who was neutered and surgically debarked today in an attempt to keep peace. Please PM me if you are interested and I can get better descriptions to you or, come visit tomorrow from 10 - 2 and help us place these wonderful dogs.

A message from the animal shelter on how to help by signing a petition.

Dear Clients,
This is the first time I am writing to you, not for a showing but for the Animal Shelter in Riberas. The dog shelter which is part of the shelter has been shut down, starting this morning.
If you would like to support the shelter, please sign the petition at the desk of the Animal Shelter where the dog food is sold.
The Animal Shelter needs our support, if we can get enough signatures the dog shelter may reopen in the future.
The Animal Shelter is a huge part of our community, with adopting out dogs and cats and helping to keep the number of dogs on the street down, and helping Mexicans with limited means with their animals.
We need as many signatures as we can by Friday, please tell everyone you know that cares about animals to stop in and sign.

I don't understand the big uproar. I am an Animal lover and hold no love for JK. Most of the community knows that Geoffrey Kaye has been putting dogs and cats down for years. Where was the uproar then. Is this just a ploy for sympathy. What about the tons of free dog food that he is getting from Pedigree. Do 14 dogs eat that much? The Spay & Neuter Center offered to take some dogs but it was declined. Is it because Gudrun Jones speaks out for what she believes? There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes and it sure would be nice if we would know the truth. Also the reason that the streets are cleaned up is not because of the Animal Shelter, It is because of the Lakeside Spay and Neuter Center who have almost done 10,000 in 91/2 years. They help all dogs regardless of ownership. If a dog is in distress they do not ask for its nationality, they come and help. In my book " That is love for Animals."

An inside source, who declined to be identified since he was not authorized to speak about the matter says that there has been a negotiated resolution of the issues between the Municipality and the Animal Shelter. It was agreed that the Shelter would but in place remedial measures to reduce the noise issue and correct any alleged deficiencies in legal procedures.

If things go as indicated, the Shelter may be accepting dogs next week.

I just received this email from the animal shelter. Looks like they are back in business, but would like to continue getting signatures through this morning:

"Good news! It seems the local authorities have reassessed our situation and decided we can continue with the dog shelter operation.
Thank You to all of the community for your support. We have collected over 1,000 signatures and will continue collecting signatures by tomorrow (Thursday) 11AM. The attorney will then present the signatures to the Mayor.
To anyone that has not had a chance to sign, please stop by if you can. It will be appreciated.
Thank You again, to everyone."

Hopefully their overnight barking solution is not going to be solved by the cruel use of no bark collars (shockers) or the inhuman "debark" surgery. The first are to be used at the most for 20 minutes, (not overnight) at a time, and the second is awful. I had the unfortunate experience of knowing 2 different dogs who had that surgery, it was so sad to see when they tried to let the owners know something was wrong. What a terrible sound it was. I also had adopted a dog that came with a no bark collar, the first thing I did after trying it on myself was to take out the batteries. AWFUL things to do to man's best friend, and not for altruistic reasons at all.

I'm hoping there is some kind of insulation they can use around the area or a night watchman as recommended somewhere. I would rather see the shelter move that do anything to the dogs.

I agree with you, the night watchman idea seems to be great. Hope they do something that can make everyone happy.

I'm TOTALLY against debarking. It IS cruel. I wasn't real impressed when the guy running it when I was in there talked about the thousands of dogs he had put down over the time they were there. I realize it's kinder than having animals abused or starving but the way it was said kind of made me shudder.

There are two NO Kill shelters here. One is Anita and the other the Lakeside Spay and Neuter Center. Both Shelters need help. The Lakeside Spay & Neuter Center, A.C. is mostly responsible for the clean up of the streets. They have altered almost 10000 animals and unlike the Lakeside Friends of Animal (LFA) they help all animals in need and one does not have to be Mexican to receive help from them. Another interesting thing is that the original trust given to the LFA by MS. Pinkerton does not state anything about Mexican dogs only

Also of interest is that Mr. Kay's Assistance has a Power of Attorney to the Lakeside Friends of Anmals. That should tell you something.

When I get a friend for my mighty mouse, I'm going to Anita's. I understand she has a really nice German Shepherd that's been there a while. I'll also give her a donation. What a wonderful woman to (as I hear it) do without to help critters who have no political clout & can't help themselves. I buy books from her all the time at the Ajijic tianguis.

Is that mighty mouse on the couch? How would Mighty Mouse handle a German Shepard?
