Attempted kidnapping 10 am today in Ajijic - can anyone confirm???

A friend says she was driving east on the carretera in Ajijic today around 10 am when a large military truck and 5 black SUVs pulled up near Colon, and uniformed police and military were piling out of the trucks and swarming the area.

Later on her way back she stopped and asked if anyone knew what had happened, and a Mexican woman who works nearby told her that druggeros had tried to force a person, (a man??) into their van. The bad guys had gotten out of the van and were running after him, and then the people around that area started throwing rocks at the thugs and called for help. The military and police trucks showed up almost right away and caught two of them.

Right on the carretera before 10 am??? Kidnapping a man??? Anybody got any corroborating stories or can confirm this?

We were at the Hole in One for the Monday Market and at 10 am, 3 state trucks and 2 military trucks went screaming by at full speed heading towards Chapala. They were loaded with men. In the first truck was 2 guys in the back with arms behind their back.

A friend of mine just emailed and told me this also. Can someone confirm as FACT? I hope this is not starting up again.

We have 37 people that saw the State and Military trucks go by with two guys cuffed in the back around 10am.

They were obviously taken into custody just before that time.

Looks like they were headed to jail.

Wow Big Daddy, 1st report by a friend of Merry had them @ colon @ approx. 10 AM, west bound, your report had them heading east @ 10 AM, and we discussed this @ hole in one, 10:15 AM. One report has locals throwing rocks at the bad guys....probably not a smart move, given guns trump rocks, but if true really good news that locals are "Walking Tall" and have had enough! Good news 2 guys apprehended. More good news....Military/police pressence!

Where is the holding cell, Ajijic or Chapala?

this morning at the plaza where is the crossroads of Colon and the Carretera three guys stopped their car to abduct 2 young boys. The kids started to scream for help and out of nowhere over 35 guys came running to help..little old ladies pulled rocks from the streets and broke all the windows of the car and smashed the vehicle from all sides..even little kids got in the action throwing rocks at the terrorists. Someone had called the cops and had they not arrived the three would have been dead as the crowd had them down on the ground (more than 10 to 1) having a field-day kicking the shit out of these guys. A friend who is a contractor arrived smiling from ear to ear as he said for once it was not rumor..he saw it with his own eyes and was practically in tears of joy. He has 2 small boys and has been living in such fear for his family but somehow today he felt empowered by the sight of the community which is fighting back united for their way of life and place of peace. BRAVO AJIJIC!

It is about bloody time. I wish I could have seen that. BRAVO and ENCORE.

An angry mob has power. These lowlifes are not driven by their courage..just by their brutality. The slimey cowards have had their way till now... easy pickin's....maybe not anymore. I agree, Kipissippi... they've been picking the low-hanging fruit, especially targeting women and kids tells me they are inexperienced and younger and not that strong themselves. They just want the easy captures, start fighting back and you might get hurt but that's better than dead.

When you outnumber the bad guys..a well placed rock can be disabling. Those cholos were probably in shock.

Jim if you would have seen two boys being kidnapped and they were screaming for help....and you KNEW that they would be butchered..... I bet you'd do whatever it was to save them. They did what they knew was right and I for one, salute them.

First it is rocks, then machetes and pitch forks. VIVA AJIJIC. Hopefully the next time the police arrive a wee bit later........

I have to agree Bobby. Make sure the courts don't let them slip away. I hate to see mob rule...but sometimes justice has to prevail over law.
