Cell phone and CURP registration Empty Cell phone and CURP registration

Post by Intercasa Tue Apr 06, 2010 9:13 pm

You need to register your cell phones by April 10th. There is some talk that an extension may be granted but as of now it is unsure.

This applies to all users of Mexican cell phones who had them prior to a year ago.

You'll need to get a CURP number. Easiest way is to bring your passport and FM3 / FM2 / Inmigrado documents (originals) with a copy of the passport face page and immigration document face page plus renewal page to the Registro Civil in Ajijic (on the corner across from Bancomer and the plaza). Ask for Paloma, she is a friend of mine and speaks English. You'll be in and out pretty quickly but I think she might not be in this week as many are on vacation.

After you have your CURP then send the following text message to 2877 ALTA.(insert your CURP here)

Now if you are a tourist then you can try to go to the cell phone store with a copy of your passport and the original. Another way is if you have a good friends you can register with their CURP.

Thanks

The CURP is separate from the FM#, if you get an FM2 then the number will appear in your FM2. Otherwise you'll have to go to the Registro Civil to get your CURP.

Spencer, I got my FM2 yesterday. It does not have my CURP, nor does it have a place for entering one.

My Durango driver's license has a sort of bastardized version of my CURP.

All FM2s I've seen have the CURP but I'm in Jalisco, strange. The licenses don't have a reliable one as I gave them my CURP when I got my license and they made up a number instead, go figure!

Just as expected. Much ado over nothing. Telcel, under the guideance and ownership of the richest man in the world got this delayed via an injunction. Anybody other than Spencer surprised? Enjoy your cellphones, this will never happen in Mexico. Zoey.

Many Mexicans assumed they wouldn't cutoff and some phones were cutoff, better safe than sorry.

According to the Guadalajara Reporter they cut off people whose information was not correct and they are not going to cut off anyone now. Telmex has a successful injunction and Moviestar has one filed and (paper says) is not cutting off customers.

Does every national and FM2/FM3 resident get assigned one of these #'s?

Not now, but I understand that it will happen after the new system starts on 1 May.

Spencer reports that the FM2s he has seen have CURPs. My brand new one does not. My FM3s did not.

My understanding is that Curp numbers are phony, unless you go in and apply for a CURP number directly. That is your valid Curp number. The ones on FM2s and the one on my Jalisco driver's license are just made up. Spencer, wherefore art thou? Zoey

Driver license ones are fake, FM2 appear to be real and you can go to this page: http://www.gobernacion.gob.mx/CurpPS_HTML/jsp/CurpTDP_20081215.html

If you can enter your CURP and it shows in their system then you have a real one.

Is a CURP # like a SIN (social insurance number) here in Canada?

Maybe going to be. I understand that over time all citizens will have to have one. I think they have a SS ID if they're in the system, not all are, and a voter registration card. Spencer would you clarify this for us?

It is a way for the government to identify all people as there could be 100 Juan Perezes born on the same day, with the CURP they can tell one from the other.

Absolutely. It is a personal identification system for Mexico and everyone will have their own one of a kind number so that Mexico can trace them and their transactions. Very similar to the SS number that all of us from the States have, but no longer give out as so many identity thefts are taking place. I will delay as long as possible, and no Mexican that I know, which is not a lot, will register until forced to, including my Mexican attorneys and their staff. Most Mexicans do not trust their government and want them to have as little info as possible about them. Mexicans and Americans have a lot in common in that area.

Was in Telcel next to the casino today to buy some minutes for my phone. Got in line behind three gringos.
\
All three of them had their phones turned off and the helpful, but tired Senorita, explained patiently to each of them to take their passports and FM whatever to the police station in Ajijic to get their CURP number.

Me, I am waiting until I am turned off. I mean when my phone is turned off. I am with my Mexican friends. Zoey

I was looking at the government website for the online renewal of FM3 today and the form requires a curp. Guess we will all have to get one sometime. I think I will go there tomorrow and while in the vicinity, check out the "dollar store" to see if they actually have stun guns. cheers

I hesitate to walk my dogs since they and I were threatened by 2 German Shepherds for the second time. This time I did use the pepper spray which detered them but incensed the owner. He did not think his dogs were intimidating. In the meantime the hackles were up, they were growling and I could not move for fear of attack. And the owner was yelling at me to get out of there, (on a public sidewalk no less). Cell phone and CURP registration 968748

BTW, my dogs were leashed and the crazy gringo yelled I should let them go to fight with his! Whadda jerk! Cell phone and CURP registration 18717

No. The CURP is one of several optional items on the form.
