Cell Phone Refresher Please Empty Cell Phone Refresher Please

Post by CheenaGringo Fri Feb 08, 2013 5:25 pm

I go through this every year when we bring our Sprint phones down to Mexico but I never remember how to dial phone numbers within Mexico. Sprint instructions say: dial Mexico numbers just like you would dial them from local Mexico phones. So:
1) How do I dial a local or long distance landline?
2) How do I dial a local or long distance cell phone?

I do know that when calling a US #, i dial 00 1 then the number.

All phone numbers in Mexico are 10 digits, simply enter all 10. When calling from a cell phone there is no difference between calling a cell, long distance, or a landline.
The area code for Guadalajara is 33, so if you see an 8 digit number simply precede it with "33." If you're calling Lakeside the area code is 376. When someone gives you their number as 766-1111, you must put 376 in first. Claro?

Sort of. I thought there was some deal about dialing a 44 or 45 in front of cell phone numbers?

Those prefixes are used when calling from a land-line to a cell phone. 45 when calling a phone NOT in your area code, such as from Lakeside to a Guadalajara (33) cell phone. 44 is when calling WITHIN your same area code, such as calling to a Guadalajara cell phone from a Guadalajara land-line.

Okay, so if calling from Guadalajara:

If I am calling a landline at the Lake, I dial 376-766-xxxx?

If I am calling a cell at the Lake with a Guadalajara 333 code, I dial 44 xxx-xxxx?

Correct on landline. To call a cell anywhere you dial the 10 digits of the phone number. To call a Lakeside cell you dial 33-1234-5678
The 44 and 45 are used ONLY when calling FROM a land-line to a cell number.

I'm going to take it into or send it to my favourite TelCel store - on the side street, immediately west of Bugambillia Plaza, just south of the old Crown Casino and suggest they print it up for their regular customers...

remember that only if it's a local call, will you dial from cellular to cellular 33 + 8 number. However if you are phoning a cell phone in another part of the country they will have a different area code (lada) which will not be 33.

Also remember that if you are not long distance when using a landline to phone you cellular, you do not dial 045 as stated above but 044. Oh and some Telmex packages state that you can phone 100 minutes or calls, (I think minutes) for free per billing period when calling a local Telcel #. Sadly lakeside, phoning a Telcel # from lakeside is long distance, that's why we have to dial 045. (044 is meant for phone with the same lada, you know, same area code)

I hope this helps
