Cell phone plans
Maybe not such a new topic but......
OK....I am such an inexperienced Cel user having had the same plunky phone -make/receive calls, maybe text once in a blue moon, for about 5 yrs...that I am totally befuddled by all this new fangled technology, so come to the group for some guidance, please.
TelCel tells me that their monthly plans become double in price if I use an unlocked phone that my daughter want to bring to me from the US. Has anyone else had experience in bringing in a "foreign" phone?
What I want to do is to make/receive calls...send/receive messages and maybe access the internet for info when travelling. Is this feasible - practical - doable?
TIA!!!

Re: Cell phone plans
just get a telcel sim card, and use the pay as you go plan....make sure the phone is not a sprint unit
Re: Cell phone plans
It's called the Amiga plan, pay as you go, use any phone. No need for a "plan."

Re: Cell phone plans
Hope I'm not hijacking, but I quit using my pay-as-you-go plan because I'd put 200 pesos on it and two days later they'd be gone having made 1 or 2 local calls. Couldn't get any solid answers from two different Tel-Cel offices.

Look at your phone. You've probably got 3G, etc. enabled which eat your Pesos. You can talk to the little Telcel office down the street next to Farmacia Cristina and they can sort it out for you. The Amiga system is the lowest cost way to go for most of us.

There are different Amigo pay as you go 'plans'. I recently switched to Amigo Por Segundo. You pay per second for calls, with a cost of .85 pesos per minute, text message, and mb, and you get one free number for calls or messages.
