Major road construction on Colon in Ajijic

They have put in high curbs on each side so there will be no parking on this bottom section. They still have enough materials on site to do another block, maybe more.

It's been a week since CBob posted the last picture. Did this get finished and if so how does it 'look'?

Lol......I was going to take a photo this morning but didn't. It is pretty much finished. Beautiful road and sidewalks. There is still a narrow strip of dirt between the curb and sidewalk on each side. I'm thinking they may be planting some trees or shrubs?

There are still piles of rocks and paving stones in the parking lot. Looks like enough to do another block.

Looks like the street may have been 'raised' a bit... not as much drop off from the sidewalk. However, in the rainy season I have seen water running full-tilt down Colon. That 'cup' may runneth over now.

Could you imagine how much the dust would be reduced if they did all the streets like this?

The sidewalks are pretty much the same size as they were before the re-do.

Paved streets are for sure nice, but exacerbate climate change. Soil absorbs 30% of the planet's carbon. Every time we pave over dirt, we lose a little more carbon sink.

Uh huh.......and imagine the amount of dust that would be thrown up in the atmosphere with every highway and road in the world being dirt. Air Quality problems? Maintenance? Etc. I think the negatives would far outweigh this argument.

While this statistic might be accurate as a general statement, hard dirt roads used for 75-100 years probably do not reasonably align themselves with the term 'soil'.  Water does not sink into these dirt roads like it might in a more 'agricultural' setting.

So CBob, yes, fix 'em similar to this in the village. IMO

Now if only Riberas got the same.
