GDL road construction, domestic flight procedures Empty GDL road construction, domestic flight procedures

Post by tbh1 Thu Oct 06, 2016 7:14 pm

Two questions, loosely related

1)  I'll be driving to GDL arriving at about 6:30 am tomorrow and I know, as others have mentioned, that the construction along with the cars, trucks, and buses can make getting to the airport exit a little dicey.    I haven't seen the area lately, though.    Since it will be dark with possible rain I'm wondering if it might make more sense to bypass the mess at the exit and go on up to the retorno and come back southbound.    I realize that the southbound traffic from the City can be pretty heavy, though.        Maybe I should consider off-airport parking and not fight it at all?     Any thoughts about that?

2)  I'm taking my first domestic flight here in Mexico (MZT) since moving here with a resident visa.    I've been assuming that since I'm not leaving the country there is nothing special for me to do.     I'll have the usual, my passport and a drivers license with picture ID.    Am I overlooking anything?

Thanks.

Have your Residente Permanente card with you.

Funny you should mention that. I started the renewal process for my residente temporal a month ago, and it looked like I would have the new card this week, but it didn't happen. So the best I can do is to show them my copy of the form that says it is in process. Our favorite attorney's office is handling it -- they said the form is sufficient. Thanks.

I've flown domestically with just a Jalisco driver's license. But if you don't have your residency visa I'd bring something else besides the "in process" letter just in case. Can't hurt. Why worry?

Have an excellent trip to wherever.

My passport has that residente temporal visa page in it. That should be pretty convincing, it just doesn't show anything about the yearly renewal.

I once had to bypass the airport and go to the first retorno and I was alarmed at how much farther it was and it was busy and scary. I'd go for the off airport parking. I've never heard anything negative about them.

All they care about is that you have an "official" ID from some government, Mexico or otherwise. FEDERAL governments seem to be preferred. As I said, I've used only my Jalisco driver's license before for a domestic flight, but it doesn't seem to carry the same weight here as back in the old country. If you don't have your visa, just bring your passport. Problem solved.

I know nothing about the airport area construction you're referring to...

It's just a domestic flight....don't worry... have fun!

The construction that I was concerned about was right at the exit ramp to the airport during the summer months  into August.    The trucks and buses often made it difficult to see, and to get to the exit.   That is all finished  now and getting into the airport  was a breeze this morning.

The Aeromar prop jet was a fun ride, made me think of the C130s from another life, but a whole lot more comfortable.

While in prcess for an INM change, you are supposed to carrry the tramite/NUT letter with you, in place of an INM visa card. It is your legal ID within Mexico. If an emergency requires you to leave the country, you must go to INM and get a letter of permission for the specific trip; maximum of 60 days permitted.

I'm pretty sure that for a domestic flight all you need is your passport. You're already in the country, but do carry it with you.

It looks like everyone agrees about the INM form letter with the NUT number on it, and that is what I've been carrying.   I haven't gotten into any unusual situations so no one has asked for it.

As to standard procedures at the airport ... I showed my passport to TSA and my drivers license to the airline; going back I'll reverse them and see if anyone wants something different.

all you need is an id, I have gone with my passport and sometimes my Mexican driver´s license ...They are interested in a picture id,to check you are the same person as listed on the ticket, they are not interested in your immigration status. so have your passport , a copy of your application in case you need it and Mexican driver´s licence if you have one, and you will have no problem
