Major road construction on Colon in Ajijic

The whole bottom block of Colon is torn up and there is s mountain of paving stones nearby. I hope this continues throughout the village.

A few days ago there was a lot of patching of cobbles on 16 de Septiembre east of La Bodega.  Looked like they had sand set up to continue west of La Bodega, but this was patches, not the complete overhaul as in Bob's photo of lower Colon.

They need to do a complete overhaul every major N/S & E/W road in the village. The patches are more than useless. They usually wash away as soon as it rains. 16th de Septiembre from Donata Guerro to Colon is basically a sand road from all their "patches".

Taken 10 minutes ago.  Appears to be water/sewer related.

Or even better.........perhaps they are replacing the old sewer pipes as they fix all the roads?? Probably wishful thinking.......lol.

I sure hope they compressed the soil. Pavers laid over recently disturbed soil is a recipe for disaster. i don't see any substrate under the pavers.

But of course they've thought of that.

That was my instant thought, too. "Are they really laying pavers down on dry loose dirt?"

I did my whole walkway on sand as the substrate, placing various thicknesses of broken scrounged tiles on it, and wiggling the thicker ones down into the sand so the surface was level. But the sand was soaked down and compacted first, and the tiles were placed so that I could grout the whole thing with cement between the tiles.
And it's only a walkway, no cars are driving on it.

One would think they would know how to lay pavers here............but then again....lol. I just hope they carry this same theme throughout the entire village.

Here is their idea of "road repairs" on 16 de Septiembre. Just sand in holes........to be washed away with the first rain.

Saw that the other day and had hoped there were cobbles laid beneath the sand topping.

I've seen this in the past where they lay cobblestones and then 'sand over' to have the traffic pack it down. Don't know about these but...

C'mon guys, how long have you lived in Mexico? It's not raining NOW, so there's no need to think that far ahead. ;-)

The funny thing is they do this every year just before the rainy season so of course it is crap again in 6 weeks. WTF is with that? I would love to ask whoever is in charge of the roads around here.

Is there an equivalent in Spanish of the saying, "The definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result every time"?

So now all those pavers have been torn back up. There is a lot more pavers, sand and base rocks on site. I guess they are going with a different design.

When I came here 40 years ago we had a lot of roads that were unpaved, the problems started when they started paving with rocks,and paver bricks...

Actually I think that the problem started when the village roads started seeing tons of increased car traffic. Also big vehicles/trucks that didn't used to exist beat them down. Think dump trucks, garbage trucks and larger/more buses.

They are doing a really nice job. If only they would do all the major roads in Ajijic like this.

That appears to be two paving strips running down the center of the street. Does that assume cars will drive down the center of the street?

I wonder how they' finish the rest of the roadbed?
