This is by far the worst wave although not as deadly it would seem. I know 4 people who have it right now and are probably not part of the stats.

I'm aware of eight acquaintances down with Covid in the last two weeks. No idea what variant. Folks are now self-testing here at Lakeside.

Unfortunately there will never be an "out of the woods" like all the scientists originally thought. "Herd immunity" is not possible as the virus is continually mutating. This is a new sickness that is here to stay. It will return again and again, every year, with a new mutation just like the flu. I guess at some point society will accept this and move on to something else.

I agree. When they come out with a combo yearly vaccine that combines other kinds of flu and the most recent Covid mutation, all will return to "normal" aka SNAFU.

Interesting article. I haven't had a cold or the flu in 25 years. I can be around people who are sick with those things and never get it. I occasionally feel like I have a cold coming on, but the symptoms totally disappear with a day. I guess my system just knocks it out. ( I don't have any allergies)
I do think I had Omicron about 3 months ago, (really weird combo of symptoms I've never had before- fatigue, runny nose, headache, incredible aching, but only from the waist down). But same as when I feel a cold coming on, it lasted a really short time- those symptoms were gone in about 36 hours.

This BA5 is nothing to brush off, though.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER ABOUT THE FEDERAL STATS THAT I POST IS THAT THEY ARE ONLY THE RESULTS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN TESTED. THE MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION CANNOT AFFORD THE 200 PESOS FOR A TEST.

Also more people doing at-home tests which do not get reported at all. Guadalajara Farmacia sells them. Supposedly Walmart Mexico is selling them in 5 packs at reasonable price. Not sure if in stock at our local Walmart.

BESIDES THE AT HOME TESTS NOT BEING REPORTED, PEOPLE ARE ALSO NOT SWABBING DEEPLY ENOUGH AND GETTING FALSE NEGATIVES. THE YOUNG MAN THAT I KNOW, WHO WAS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH COVID, DID NOT WANT TO GO BACK TO GET TESTED TO CONFIRM THAT IT HAD GONE. HE SAID IT WAS A MOST UNCOMFORTABLE TEST.
