Murphy's Law is alive and well in Mexico. I want back up to my back ups. Each to his/her own.
I know the sun goes out at night but it comes on again during the day. Solar cellphone chargers available on Mercado Libre and on Amazon.mx as well. As little as 400 pesos
Saves driving around

And you can get power bank chargers also

I sent them an email titled " My internet is down" and gave them my name and address. They responded within an hour. Great service.
What did they say, Bob?

They said they were doing service which required them to take the system down.

There is also a report on TOB that it was CFE in Joco from where their service is located that was the problem. They DID have backup but it didn't last long enough. So now they have a gas generator as backup to the backup. Hope it's an inverter style with pure sine wave.

Re: Ilox Status Update
After the little outage on Friday, I am getting slightly higher speeds. So maybe there was a system reboot of some kind.

Not a good sign. It could suggest that there is no redundancy in the system. Any hardware failure, any misconfiguration of the equipment and there goes their service. But it really suggests is that they don't have a good grasp of the technology: there should be no reason for "service" to bring down a properly deployed network. But this presupposes that their network is properly deployed. Most network admins strive for the difficult to achieve five-nines availability - 99.999%. A feat about which Telmex has nightmares, and which ILOX can see only in the rear view mirror, at least for this year.

No Grrrr. I'm still waiting for installation 14 months after prepaying for a year's ilox service.

Yeah but I hate the thought of croaking and leaving behind a year's prepaid service.
I'm currently enjoying 1.6 mbps from Texmex. Streaming ? Ha watching a YouTube video is a challenge.
Makes me grumpy as I watch Shaw fade into the distance.

Re: Ilox Status Update
I suppose iLox should have informed people in outer area's that it would take much longer. Send an email to them and ask when they plan on getting to upper Chula Vista.

I dropped in to their store a month ago and the story was they were finishing up La Floresta then heading East.
I'm just having a little fun with this situation. They will get to my house eventually and I'll have all the new toys to play with - Google Mesh, Alexa, Wi-fi cameras, 4K TV.

If you happen to visit NoB, you could buy an Ooma Telo, choose a USA phone number anywhere you wish, and then take it to Mexico, plug it into your modem, and have a convenient USA phone number, which you can use for whatever 'purpose' you wish.

Good point.
Does anyone know if ilox would be able to port a Majicjack phone number from NOB?
TIA

Re: Ilox Status Update
I think any VOIP phone, like Ooma, MagicJack, Vonage or such, would work in much the same way. I do think you have to purchase and set them up NoB, but once done you can use them anywhere. We set our Ooma up in AZ, and used that number for awhile in TX by just plugging it into our new internet modem. Later, we paid $20 to have them give us a new TX number; although that wasn't necessary. We just wanted to appear more 'local'.

Re: Ilox Status Update
Yes I love my Ooma VoIP phone. Apparently according to the Telmex computers, I am only 1070 meters wire length from where my telephone line connects to the internet, which means I have witnessed download speeds up to 16 MB/sec down.
These days, they say they only provide me with 12 down because they do not have a large enough backbone to Guadalajara to provide the area with faster speeds.
So if they are going to offer faster speeds here like they are advertising, they will have to increase there information highway (backbone) from lakeside to Guadalajara.

Well, 3 days after installation, my Telmex phone number has migrated over to Ilox. Yippie!

Re: Ilox Status Update
I prepaid ILOX and now have great wifi, and a ported phone number. Canceling Telmex and Telecabke is cheaper than ilox. If the phones go out I have my cell phone, and I even have a hand crank charger. Not planning to live for the worst case scenario, of it does happen I'll stand in the street and cry till someone with a generator take pity on me.

That's great news. Cancelling Telmex and Majicjack will more than offset the cost of the best ilox package.
