Unable to Get Internet Access
My wife moved into our new place in upper Ajijic this week, and went to Telmex only to learn there are no lines available.
What other ways can I get internet lakeside? I've read that Telecable service has substantially deteriorated over the past months since getting bought out. Perhaps Telcel with a big data plan, or Movistar?
I've used both Telmex and Telecable in the past and have been quite happy with their services.

Re: Unable to Get Internet Access
I'm not even sure that Telecable is taking on any new subscribers. They aren't for their digital cable service. Your best bet may be with TelCel with a data package for now. Surfing the web doesn't use much data, just avoid streaming any video.

If you've got a smart phone, you can use it as a hotspot.
If you want to buy a mifi unit from Amazon, then the best data packages are from AT&T at the Laguna Mall.
You won't be streaming anything but it will tide you over until you can get a phone line with Telmex. I hope you are on the "list" for Telmex.

You should also go back to TM almost daily and ask for a phone line. You may be surprised.

I agree. A friend was told they had no lines and the waiting list had 40 people ahead of her. She went back a couple of days later and they scheduled someone to go out and hook her up. You just never know.

Where TelMex is concerned the squeaky wheel gets the grease........if you don't ask at least twice they don't think you really want it.....jaja.

Re: Unable to Get Internet Access
A friend who moved into El Dorado a couple of years ago was getting the runaround on when his internet would finally be hooked up. On the 40th day, after numerous phone calls and broken promises, he packed himself a lunch, went to the Telmex office and sat there in their lobby until they finally sent someone out to hook him up later that day.
As CBob said, the squeaky wheel gets the grease!
