Lake Level
I find it interesting that the lake appears to be rising so quickly for this time of the year. This typically occurs when they open the dams late in the season however there are no signs of the lirio which usually accompany the dam openings. Have they found a way to stop the lirio from entering the lake?

Re: Lake Level
We got lots of lirio on the west side of the pier in Chapala. City workers and volunteers have been cleaning it up all week. The latest water management agreement requires the upstream dams to open and let water flow into the Lerma river earlier in the season rather than wait until they are completely full.

This morning: Lirio appearing here and there. I suspect it came along with the extra water.

You're right about the lake level rising quickly CBob! In fact we're ahead this month compared with other years.

Re: Lake Level
I'll be seeing ya down there soon. We need to get some of those black bass up from Chapala. Maybe we should try the weedy area on the east side of the pier?

I added the link to the "QuickJump Menu" to the government site which shows the current level of the lake and compares it to the previous two years.

Re: Lake Level
Yes, and you will notice the lake level is about 3 weeks ahead of where it was at this point last year. Hopefully the trend continues however as stated above if it is due to early dam openings then there could be less flowing down later in the season.

Re: Lake Level
The lirio continues to accumulate in Chapala despite efforts to clean it up. But please don't tell MC. He'll insist that Chapala is hoarding all the lirio and insist that Ajijic get its fair share.

Re: Lake Level
It would appear the lake is high enough for a makeshift dock. It has already surpassed last years high.

Re: Lake Level
It must have. On Thursday, the last day the government measured and published on line the lake level, we only had one centimeter to go. And assuming that the lake continues to go up at the same rate of one to two centimeters per day, we should be slightly over the highest it got last year a full 6 weeks earlier than the high last year.
And assuming the lake will continue to go up for another 6 to 8 weeks as it did during the previous two years we could get another 20 to 30 centimeters.
Here's hoping my guestimate comes true.

Re: Lake Level
A report was in informador today saying the lake has increased without the dams being opened !
I do find that strange with the level rising so quick since june.
Where has the water come from?

Re: Lake Level
Its been widely reported on this and tob thats experts agree the local rain only replaces evaporation.
This has been below average this year and even in a normal season would not account for the rapid rise of the lake which you can see from the stats link provided by this board.

Re: Lake Level
The report above says that they opened the dams in July. That makes sense and explains why the lake rose so quickly back then. I suspect we will just see a trickle from this point on.

Re: Lake Level
The Chapala weather station when it was operating had a link to CEA, which showed the lake level. Did anyone happen to copy that link down before Steve shut down his webpage? I forgot to copy the link down.

Re: Lake Level
Don't worry Pete. With Steve gone we got you covered. You will even find a link to a weather site on our drop down menu. The lake is currently 66.8% full and still rising.
