Lake Level
Haven't looked for the official measurements but from my perch overlooking the Lake it sure looks like we're already above the Oct 2014 water level.

I like your "PERCH" Sunfan! Best view @ the Lake......make that one of the best....just eliminating controversy How are the mosquitos this year? Deb will be handling the closing for me. She should arrive the 12th of August. Hope you, Reggie and Deb can connect for lunch.

Regardless of what the official measurement might say it is higher at the Ajijic pier than the peak last year and we are barely half way through the rainy season. At the rate it is going it should be lapping at the old seawall in front of the Ajijic malecon.
Re: Lake Level
The high 2014 was 94.44M, it's currently at 94.39M, if you can tell the difference between essentially less than 2" then you should work for the CFE.

Re: Lake Level
According to the CEA website http://ceajalisco.gob.mx/chapala/comportamiento.html
2014 Max was 93.66 and the current level is 94.4. Not sure where Diamondfly got his data.

My measurement says that we are about last Octobers level.
Unscientific, but it is all mine.

Re: Lake Level
Unless I'm misreading the CEA site, I believe it was 94.44 which is about where it is today.

Re: Lake Level
That's how it looks to me too. On Nov. 5/14 the lake was at a peak of 94.44. At this point now it is at 94.43.
Re: Lake Level
For the first time in a few years I saw people fishing off the end of the Ajijic pier.

Re: Lake Level
diamondtuffy you have it right. David was in error.
The lake continues to rise and today (Aug. 4th) reached the high point for 2014 which was at the end on Oct. It passed the 2013 high level July 9th. The 2013 high was reached in November. So the lake could still rise for several months ending up pretty good.

Jajaja.....and if you wanted to drag your catch over 50 feet of rocks and mud once you caught it.
Re: Lake Level
Coming in from the east is the biggest lirio patch I have ever seen. It looks to be several square kilometers around.
Re: Lake Level
The irony is when I had Koi ponds up in Toronto I used to pay $3 a pop for a dozen or so "water hyacinth" roots each spring.
The fish dined on the roots suspended in the water and they provided cover for them from the direct Sun. Koi can get sunburn.

Re: Lake Level
I brought a couple of those "water lettuces" and 1 hyacianth (sp) home for my turtle pond. It only took two weeks for my pond to be completely covered with them. Now I pull some out every day. It is absolutely amazing how prolific these plants are.
Re: Lake Level
I put a couple dozen in my stock pond because they were taking over my koi pond. When I couldn't see them a few days later I thought the wind must have pushed them where I couldn't see them. Nope... nary a one left. It turns out that snapping turtles think they're delish!

Aha there's the solution. We just release large hungry snapping turtles into the Lake and wait for the Lirio to disappear. And at the end of the season......Turtle Soup!

Re: Lake Level
Do we have snapping turtles here? Only seen one small turtle someone put in the ponds at LCS. It didn't look like a snapper to me. Do we need to worry about handling small wild turtles here?

Spend a lot of time in the lake with my boat. Have never seen a turtle. Seems like there should be some.

Re: Lake Level
I don't believe there are any snapping turtles in the area. I have seen a tortoise crossing the highway on the way to Mazamitla and when I was hiking in Manzanillo we stumbled across two painted turtles (or something very similar)
On another note, all the lirio must be piling up down in Jocotepec as there is very little on the shores off the Ajijic Malecon. After seeing the amount floating in the middle yesterday I expected it to be a few hundred feet wide on the shore this morning, but nada.

Re: Lake Level
Someone gave one of the local vets a turtle and he asked me to find a home for it. It kinda looked like a red eared turtle form NOB. I put him in local pond but assumed he was not a snapper. Would have been more careful playing with him if he was a snapper is my concern.
