Unfortunately no. Still trying to finance reno. The bank can't find a pigeon hole that I fit. It's getting the test. Been rainy and miserable for two weeks. Had some horizontal rain last week. Makes it easy to find the leaks.

I would also rather have a Mexican plated vehicle. I am all about flying under the radar. In fact, I may buy something local with a shit kicked body and put a new running gear under the hood. I like wrenching on cars so it would give me something to do.......
Not sure about the FMM vs FM3 thing. Spencer will know.
Well, CB, the local cholos will be mighty surprised when they pull their usual trick here and drop the engine out your "pretend" clunker and find they have hit the jackpot. These guys have dropped engines out of cars here in La Floresta even on tianguis days right down the street. By the way, Mexican car insurance won´t cover you for a missing engine so if you get in the car with those prized comestibles from the Ajijic tianguis and find there is no engine to crank, push the whole remaining clunker into the lake and make sure it can´t be spotted in the turbid water. Then claim the whole thing.
Mr. Dawg, I'll teach ya a few things about mechanics when I get down and show ya how to prevent such travesties. Maybe save you a few claims............

Definitely drive a beat up old banger. We both have 15 year old Nissans. Mine hit a cow, and the left hand wing mirror is held on with duct tape. It is also broken. Annual insurance $200. Dents, hey no problem, the more the merrier.
The engines in these puppies are excellent. Repair work is really affordable and the Mexican mechanics are first rate.
Oh yeah, only wash it if you have visitors coming.

Depends where you live. If you live in a village with cobblestone streets and topes and have riff raff a few blocks away and not secure parking, well don't get a nice car.
If you live in the city, have secure parking and rarely encounter topes, then maybe another car.
People seems to have problems all over with bringing down junk cars. If your foreign plated car isn't worth $5,000 then leave it home as it could be more hassle than it is worth. So many people have these foreign plated White elephants and cannot get rid of them legally to import another.

I think you can pretty much drive whatever you want. If you want to blend in with the gringo crowd, drive a junker, the Mexicans drive new cars . No seriously, there's plenty of new cars but honestly with the crummy roads it's better to have an sm to mid size suv. If ever caught in the rain you'd especially appreciate it. Keep in mind that it's super easy to mess up the exterior of your vehicle. Buses, narrow streets, tight parking & people who shouldn't be driving on the road make car bashing common.

I was considering buying Mexican plated vehicle, but brought in foreign plated vehicle as Mexican auto insurance rate quoted was 4 times more expensive than Mexican insurance on foreign plated. Also found I could not get rental car coverage, while vehicle is being repaired, after accident if insurance is purchased South of Border. If you purchase insurance NOB from someone like Mexico Bob in Nogallis, Az., it is available.
