icasas MLS type web sites ?
Hi everyone, This is my first post so be gentile. I'm trying to scout out different areas in Mexico, and wondered if you have suggestions other than walking around (will do, eventually) or using real estate sites like Chapala.com. I've been looking at icasas and can't decide if it's for real or not. Thanks.

Canadian slang from Bob and Doug Mackenzie. It means dummy, idiot, goofball, etc.

Unlike other parts of Mexico, in our area we have a multiple listing service where all the major real estate companies include their listings. Have fun:

I guess you need to ask yourself, do I speak Spanish well enough to go to some of the places that have few English speaking Mexicans. If that answer is "no," then you want to stick to areas like Ajijic that have large English speaking populations.
You should come for a visit for a month to get the flavor of the area. Check out Airbnb or VBRO to see what rentals are available in the areas you are looking at. April thru Sept is off season and rents are lower and shorter term. Chapalamls.net is the local Real Estate listing service. You should not buy anything down here until you have spent a couple of years in a rental to see if this area is right for you.
Check out Jerry Brown Travels (google it, it is a youtube channel, very informative).
Hope that gives you enough material to use.

It's a good idea to proofread before posting, since this gang likes to have fun with any errors. I'll be "gentile" anyway.
Assuming that the OP is referring to renting rather than buying, "walking around" isn't likely to help unless he speaks Spanish. There are a number of reliable rental agencies in this area where he can check out rates. They may not have the cheapest rentals, but there are advantages, such as rental history.

Emails are finicky things, prone to multiple interpretations. My view was as an outsider trying to find out more about what to look for in the area from the internet, as I did when I was looking before my first visit. You added a few more resources too. The more, the better. I am a retired sales rep and have a thick hide.
