Quite the opposite, this could actually be pretty press worthy, as this couple (if I can call them like that) is very well known here in Chapala (for reasons I prefer not to put out here)
No, no gossip, I simply have no desire, nor do I see the purpose of telling the story of their life here (or the little that I know about). That is it..... no mas, no menos.
I will leave that up to the newspapers, if ever...

Re: Robbery gone wrong, expat died in Chapala
I heard about it the day of the attack from a law enforcement source, they said an older European had been beaten during a robbery in the early evening across from the plaza and probably would die.

Did it happen in his home, or on the street? What time?

Re: Robbery gone wrong, expat died in Chapala
Let us not forget how they (press, police,...) only too often mess up their facts, when it comes to victims age, nationality and other. I remember that in the reporting on the murder of the Canadian couple, all sources showed all (very) different ages (one example). The same when Bentley and his partner got murdered a little over 2 years ago. In the next few days, we will have to take a lot of things with a grain of salt here (if something comes out in the press again). One thing seems clear.... again, something very bad happened to a human being.Intercasa wrote:I heard about it the day of the attack from a law enforcement source, they said an older European had been beaten during a robbery in the early evening across from the plaza and probably would die.

Raymond was from Brooklyn. He had lived in Chapala for over 30 years. La señora, who is 98 years old, was not physically harmed during the robbery. I stopped by to see her today. The housekeeper and another woman were there taking care of her. She was sleeping and I did not want to awaken her.

Yes below is another version, which I also posted on another thread:

Maybe CBob took seventyseven's advice from another thread:
"If you do not care for my comments, use the foe feature"
This is a classic first where a forum member tells an owner/administrator to use the foe function!

Too much work? So you want others to do your work, eh? Lazy, eh. So just wonder what it says and don't lift a finger yourself.

A 90-year-old man is brutally beaten to death in a robbery. You live amongst criminals, cowards and savages. Paradise indeed.

Seventyseven wrote:Rony, It will be publicized here no doute. Dont forget, the family (or friends neighbors) called the Canadian newspapers so it had a big write up. It was also picked up by some other news outlets in the U.S.A. Being "nice" upper middle class people, living in a "paradise area" (Floresta), it caught attention with the Canada press fast. I don't think anyone will call the New York Post. But I am calling my Mexican friend in Chapala, she knows all the cab drivers. Also her cousin is a lawyer there, I will get the story. Rony has not done anything wrong. Believe me if there are lurid details they will surface.
Have you gotten the REAL TRUE story yet, 77? We're waiting....

Re: Robbery gone wrong, expat died in Chapala
Ok I have been reminded that I do know this man but I haven't laid eyes on him in at least a decade. People called him Levi and Levi was kind of a walk on the wild side.
Mr. Thang and I used to comment that one of these days something bad was going to happen to him, he liked to talk about his wealth and he had some other habits that I would call dangerous . I don't think he was 98 years old but he was right on up there close to 90 I believe and it takes a special kind of cowardice to beat up someone pushing 100. I'll bet old Levi didn't go out without a fight though.
I don't know why people are being are being so quiet about Levi, he would have wanted people to talk about what a bad ass he was.

Because, in other places there are no crimes. No one robs, cheats, assaults, murders, rapes, preys sexually upon children. Everywhere else, humans are all noble, brave, honorable and civilized. Yup. We are such fools to live here.

Blame the victim by all means. Not the criminals that walk the streets of what should be a peaceful small town.Ms.Thang wrote:Ok I have been reminded that I do know this man but I haven't laid eyes on him in at least a decade. People called him Levi and Levi was kind of a walk on the wild side.

Chapala is sold as a paradise, I think that is what you mean. The elderly are targets in general, everywhere. The robber could have taken the cash without killing the victim. Very sad indeed.

Addtocart, before you go trolling in order to
you might at least come close to the facts beginning with where the murder took place and the population.

Hmmm......I have never considered anywhere (including Lake Chapala) to be "paradise" and those that do are in for a shock no matter where they chose to live. I can tell you one thing though, living down here is a far cry better than where I came from (Vancouver), from just about every perspective.
