Re: Swarm 19
there is nothing old and wrecked that can't be fixed, especially here in mexico. seems to me,if people have already donated that the project should continue until completed.

It will be finished. I don't think we have many more losses to cut.

LATEST ON MARIO
Well, his golf cart is at the welders and the seats are at the upholsterers, so we are waiting for it to be returned to do the final touches. However, yesterday was Carnaval here in Mexico, and as I was recording the preparations for the parade, I heard someone call my name. It was coming from someone in the back of a truck wearing a mask....
this just in - welder finished, pick up Thursday morning.

Re: Swarm 19
The welding is 900, the seat rebuilding is 1800 and seat upholstery is 1100.
So 3800 is what is due right now. So we should be ok - currently I have about 4000 more in donations than expenses.
I'm hoping there are no more surprises. Most of the work now I can do... cleaning, sanding, priming, painting, etc.
One thing I need to take care of, which will not be expensive, but will need a creative solution is the place where the roof meets the frame. The roof latches on to the frame at the front (top of the 'windshield') it needs something compressible but sturdy to give the latches some tension and stop the roof rattling and coming unclipped (which on these streets happens after 10 yards). Anyone have any ideas?
And there is always another thing. The family strapped the batteries in place with electric cable. I was hoping that I could replace this with some sort of strapping. Any ideas on this?

Perhaps something similar to the rubber latches on off-road vehicle hood latches?

Re: Swarm 19
Good news. Just picked up the cart and the metal worker has done an AMAZING job. He has virtually replaced the chassis and painted it all, undersealed it, rebuilt all the battery supports AND fixed the problem of the floppy roof (he made some pads out of an inner tube). All for 900 pesos!
If anyone needs metalwork done, I would highly recommend this guy. I will find out his phone number, but his workshop is on Javier Mina, one block north of the Carretera and his name is Cesar.

Yes Zed, in Ajijic. I must apologize. I am so Ajijic centric (Ajijicentric?) that I forget the other communities, and the way they all name the streets the same.

Re: Swarm 19
The seats are in - a little lighter than I had expected, but at least they should stay cooler in the sun. They are the same colour (one was more in the shade). We have had workers occupying our garage and they 'promised' to clear it out today. I don't want to clean/prep/paint in the dusty sun, so I have been waiting. Just wanted to let everyone know where we were and that it is still progressing. The only problem was my overoptimistic expectation.
