Re: Accurate & Current Visa Information & Instructions
I think the benefit of separate visa's is that if your wife is on a "family" visa and something happens to you she will need to re-apply for her own visa. If come that time she can't qualify financially then she could have problems. If you currently have the financial means for separate visa's then that would be preferable IMO.
Re: Accurate & Current Visa Information & Instructions
No, Bob, you are confusing the old and the new procedures. The visas are not tied together; each has a stand-alone visa. All the family plan does is to allow one registrant to provide the financial qualification for the whole family.
To repeat: The family group plan only covers the financial requirement; after that each person is treated as an individual card holder.

So if something happens to the family member that provides the financials (IE death, departure or divorce) then the remaining members under that application do not need to re-prove financials? That is not what we were told when we applied for our Permanetes last March. I will have to inquire with the source on that one again. Gracias.

Yes Bob, under new system the original sponsoring spouse doesnt need to sign forms at renewal time so what once was an issue now isn't.

FastFox, while you may not want to submit financial information to Immigration, you will HAVE to submit financial info at least to cover the amount required for living in this country on anything other than a tourist visa. That's just the way it is--the government wants to make sure that you have enough money coming into your account(s) to support yourself, and therefore, not be a drag on Mexican social services. It is what it is, as with all things Mexican. If you want to live here, you must dance to a Mexican tune.

I believe it doesn't force you to apply in your home country, it just has to be a Mexican Consulate (or Embassy) outside of Mexico. Lot of Europeans around, not so many Lakeside. Imagine if Thor (the fellow who took over Bubba's) had to fly all the way back to Iceland! The reason is that if you get turned down at the get go, the applicant might go underground in Mexico, which would be very easy to do.

Different consulates apply this rule differently. I usually tell people home country to be safe but have seen Canadians get their visas at US branches of Mexican consulates. Earlier this week I was fighting with the Mexican consulate in Ecuador as they were not sure how to do residente permanente and one of their list of requirements was residency papers for Ecuador.

Yes. I do understand. I want to provide only the minimum that is required, not more.

That's fair--it's certainly what I do. I only show one bank account when asked for financials.
