The Current T.I.P. Grab Empty The Current T.I.P. Grab

Post by Vandre Tue Aug 26, 2014 9:27 pm

I crossed back over to US with plenty of time left on my T.I.P. which was charged on a credit card. I expected to see the return of most of the deposit within a month or so. 9+ months later, I still have not received a credit to my card.

Contacted the facilitator of the extension, and they said there is all kinds of finger pointing going on -- Aduana @ Banerecito @ who knows who and the reverse, resulting in no dinero returned

The dollar amount does not justify hiring professional help for recovery and the professionals realize this fact also. Consequently, one is on their own. I, personally, have just written this off as "Typical".

I now have a MX plated car, so not a problem I will need to deal with again.

However in the interest of helping others, I've wondered if one pays "Cash" (rather than a CCcharge) to receive the 'Temporary Import Permit' when crossing to MX, does one receive actual "Cash" when crossing back to US and turning in the TIP?

If so, this might be a smarter way to deal with this "grab". Does anyone know?

Weird. I've read several accounts of people being reimbursed their TIP credit card deposit within a couple of days after they've returned to the U.S. As always in Mexico, I'm sure there is a very specific procedure you have to follow when leaving the country. Did you go into the office before crossing the border and do the necessary paperwork? I don't know the exact steps, but I imagine it involves turning in the windshield sticker at Aduana and doing whatever else is necessary with Banjercito.

Vandre, your post doesn't mention what you did and how you actually crossed into the U.S. Maybe that's where the learning possibilities exist for others.

Problem with cash is that you would need to go back to the border to collect if the issue was sorted out later, not worth the drive.

We have always gotten a very prompt refund to our credit card when turning in a TIP.

Sorry you're getting the run-around. :(

Thanks Spencer for clarifying the TIP deposit return dilemma in your new thread today. I didn't have the specific sequence info, nor the energy, as I was traveling, to go into detail in my original post

Always fascinates me the number of Lakeside people that, not having had a particular experience, are so quick to believe that someone who has .......... must not be very intelligent or did "whatever" the Wrong Way. Unfortunately, they do nothing but deter future "heads up posts" that might help someone else.
