New church on the hill in Chapala
After 5 years of work they finally put un grande Jesus on top of the new church on the hill just west of downtown Chapala. It looks nice thinks we and hopefully within the next year or two they will finish the project. I don't know the denomination but it's got to piss off the local priesties as it really stands out against the skyline and will be bright and shiny when completed.

Do you think maybe it is being built by the Southern Baptists or some other missionary types? I have seen a lot of them around, proselytizing in the zocalo and on the Malecon. Lizzy

I doubt that it's anything but Catholic, there's so few others in Mexico and certainly not enough supporters (supplicants?) in this area to fund such a project. I like the fact that the cell phone tower is taller, homage to the god of technology?

Maybe it is and maybe it isn't. Like most things, it is a matter of perspective. In this case the cell tower is in the foreground and any good photographer can make it appear larger in relation to the background. So it may be literally larger or figuratively larger. Or both. Or not.
As far as funds, many non-Catholic cults receive a lot of dough from outside the country. The Catholics are usually dependent on local contributions.

Regardless, just like religion it's an illusion.

And to each their own illusions.

The worst thing about having your illusions destroyed...
Is discovering that they were illusions. Lizzy
