GETTING TIP REFUND?
We ordered our new TIP on line, cost for our vehicle was $400.00 USD, charged to credit card. Will remove vehicle within 90 days. I tried to ask girl at booth and she was basically clueless........so how does one get refund? Do they credit your card?
TIA
TIA

Re: GETTING TIP REFUND?
Since you charged to a card, they will refund to that card.

Hocks, how long was the TIP on your vehicle? Did you keep it current with your FM3?!

Nearly 7 months ... and NO my FM3 had expired and I was in Mexico under my New Permante .
I did however, return my vehicle NOB as originally agreed upon, and for assurance had left Deposito.

Loss of TIP Deposit
This is the way it works now. When you obtain a new TIP and pay a deposit, the expiry date of that permit is the same expiry date as the INM document you have in effect at the time (Visitor's Permit or Resident Temporal). When you change from a Visitor's Permit to a Resident Temporal -OR- renew your Resident Temporal, INM (Immigration) does not tell Aduana (Customs) that there has been a change in your Permit expiry date. Banjercito (the money handlers collecting the money for Aduana) 15 days after the expiry date of your existing TIP tells Aduana that they have no record that your car has left the country. Aduana then checks their records to see if there has been any notification of a Permit extension. If not, they tell Banjercito to send your TIP deposit to the National Treasury - never to be seen again!
The only way to avoid this from happening now is to notify Aduana of a change to your Immigration Status within that 15 day period. Many of us that had Immigration renewals that took longer than 30 days (due to the backlogs within INM) lost our deposits as a result and are still working to try and retrieve them.

Re: GETTING TIP REFUND?
Pedro, it depends on the year......newer the vehicle, higher the TIP. Maybe Spencer can post top to bottom fee. For me this is another screwy deal as the original intent of the deposit was to make sure the vehicle was removed from Mexico. Common sense would tell most of us that charging more for TIP on the older vehicles might achieve this goal.

Re: GETTING TIP REFUND?
Thanks Neil, BTW, how much will Aduana hit me over and above when I receive my TIP refund........If I pay $400 USD, how much do you think my refund will be after, say 4 months, when I turn in my TIP?

Jim:
Only a fool would venture a guess given all the different variables! Beyond differences in the exchange rate, administrative fees, foreign transaction fees, etc, Aduana probably has a "lets pick on Jim W fee".

Hocks, we just received our TIP for the next trip, normally don't turn it in cept had to get Debs name on the Escape, cuz I can't have a foreign plated no mo in Mx.!
The document states I must return the sticker within 180 days from Mx., entry date. It appears that you would be required to have Spencer file some document, to extend and tie it to your FM3, since you were here for 7 months, exceeding the 180 days allowed on TIP.
If he did this you should send a copy of the letter and ask for a refund to itvnet@banjercito.com.mx

Re: GETTING TIP REFUND?
They are making every excuse to cancel TIPS and take the deposit, the most common is someone who picks up their card say June 15th but the card says date of issue April 20th thereby making the 15 days to notify long gone even though the person just received the card.

Re: GETTING TIP REFUND?
Ought to be interesting Spencer, as we will be turning our TIP back in around the 12th of October, 3 months prior to expiration.

This is really funny as my charge showed up as pesos when I completed my transaction on line, when it hit my credit card it came up in $......464.00. This included $400 for vehicle newer than 2007, DHL overnight fee, plus whatever else they loaded on.

U & Me have a different idea of what's funny... I hate being ripped off...
It's not always bout the money as much as the idea I just got f*ked over!
I expect when I return and Nationalize my " Canadian Ford Escape " .... that cost will dwarf what I've already been done for...
Oh well...... Beer is cheaper there... I expect I might break even in 6 or 7 months!!

Re: GETTING TIP REFUND?
Hocks, no one likes getting boned without a kiss.......Maybe Spencer can chime in......butt, as I understand it the TIP, is not returned to the border within 180 days causes forfeiture of the $400.00 deposit. It does not automatically tie to your FM-3. Prior to the new fee schedule, for the most part, no one updated records thru Aduana......Spencer offers this service now, as the stakes have been raised. ????????????
