You seem to be a bit cranky. Few Mexicans I know share that trait.

Sorry to have hijacked your thread...it's been a slow Sunday.lapurafelicidad wrote:I'm not really sure what your last post means but if you find my questions annoying then simply don't respond.
By "acta de nacimiento" I assume you mean a Mexican birth certificate which would mean you are a Mexican citizen so the immigration issues didn't apply in your case. So why ARE you responding?
My parting advice...proceed with your process to become permanent and don't worry about what will happen. Precedents don't always forcast the future.
So why am I responding?...You don't have to commit a crime in order to lawyer
Cranky?.......yes, a few Mexicans I know share that trait.
Have a good day! Hopefully, I will too

Anyone wanting or needing information on immigration laws in Mexico in order to make their life decisions should pay for a consult with an attorney specializing in immigration law and not depend on the memories, conjectures, delusions or hallucinations of people on this web board. Just sayin´.

OR depend on the memories, conjectures, delusions or hallucinations of attorneys with questionable educations or qualifications! Remember the mantra: cheapest is always best.

Re: We have done it
My decision will certainly not depend on the memories, conjectures, delusions or hallucinations of people on this web board. Or any other board for that matter. But people's stories can be helpful for the insight they bring. Knowing now that the law has changed at least twice in the past 30 years (David pointed out the recently abolished FM2 and FM3 didn't exist 20 years ago, slainte explaining how foreign residents in this area bought new visas twice a year, as an example) gives me a better idea of possible changes in the future. Though from what I have gathered it appears that the Mexican government has made it much easier for foreigners to permanently reside here with the latest changes to their laws. So unless the aforementioned posters are delusional or hallucinating, what they have said here has actually eased whatever misgivings the claim that the government might later pull the rug out from under permanent residents had produced.Lady Otter Latté wrote:Anyone wanting or needing information on immigration laws in Mexico in order to make their life decisions should pay for a consult with an attorney specializing in immigration law and not depend on the memories, conjectures, delusions or hallucinations of people on this web board. How would I know? These are anonymous posters. That is why you have to be careful. For all you know they could be people who are saying things to give you a false sense of security so you will make a mistake. Then again, they could be wonderful people who wish you the best and just want to help you live a long and comfortable life in Mexico. Yeah. That´s what it is. I´m sure. Well, pretty sure. Some of them do drink a lot, you know.

Re: We have done it
Undoubtedly there are people on internet message boards that are purposely malicious. Some might post false information they honestly believe to be true. Some others make egregious attempts to impress with wit or intelligence they don't possess. Lots of different internet personalities. Whether they drink a lot or not would be very hard to discern based solely on their internet persona. Do you drink a lot?Lady Otter Latté wrote:How would I know? These are anonymous posters. BTW have you lived long in the area? Would you care to share your experience with immigration issues?

Oh yes. In fact, I am drunk most of the time. How else would I be able to carry on conversations with people like you? You don´t think I would bother if I was sober, do you?
So, how about you? Do you drink a lot--or you just naturally the way you are?

IMO...in spades. In my lifetime, it has went from nearly impossible or very difficult (legally, permanently), to doable.lapurafelicidad wrote: Though from what I have gathered it appears that the Mexican government has made it much easier for foreigners to permanently reside here with the latest changes to their laws.

I agree, slainte. I recently applied for permanente. It was far simpler than the first time I applied for an FM3. Now, if they would just simplify the process for nationalizing a car I would be a happy camper.

is joyful of heart and gladness of soul.
Drinking too much wine is bitterness of soul,
with irritation and occasion for stumbling and falling.
Drunkenness increases the anger of a senseless man to his own hurt.
Reducing his strength and adding to his wounds."
Have a nice day, Lady.

Slainte, where did you reside in Mexico prior to these last 32 years at Lake Chapala? Are you a descendant of the Saint Patrick Battalion?

"Get a car with a Mexican "acta de nacimiento."" slainte
Yes, right. Sell my car for less than it is worth. Then spend more money to buy a used car that may or may not be as good as the car I already have. Sounds like a plan.

Re: We have done it
Why are you so bitter? You have been at the least flippant if not pure nasty in most all of your responses to any of my posts. You made no attempt at answering any of my questions, the only thing you have offered is sarcasm. What motivates people like you to behave in such a manner is a mystery. I'll no longer be responding to any of your bullshit. You can wallow in it by yourself.Lady Otter Latté wrote:Just when I think lapura can not be any more pompous, self-righteous and totally lacking in humor, he proves me wrong.
