Re: Which Church are they from?
I believe they are from The Church of the Latter Day Saints. Isn't that the Mormons?

Re: Which Church are they from?
Ok, I still don't get it. They wear white suits! Sgt. Pepper suits! Yeah they have some red piping or stripes on them but so wha??? CR wears navy blue with red and white. Pants and shirts. Cargo pants. How is that similar??? Here are some pictures in case you've forgotten: http://www.cruzrojamexicana.org.mx/
Also CR uses the juventudes (kids) to collect during the national colecta. And I have seen them collecting alongside the Sgt. Pepper folks.
The only thing that might bring to mind CR is that she wears a hat that looks like the old fashioned nurses hat (I think it goes with her hairdo and she thinks it's stylish) and they have a little collection box. Apart from that, they are completely dissimilar. They're just collecting for their cause like so many do, and using a high traffic intersection.
Why are they fakers?????

Re: Which Church are they from?
The cross on the uniform looks like the international red cross symbol and not a christian elongated cross. Thus they are with 'a nod and a wink' playing on your quick first impression at a moving intersection to think they are Red Cross affiliated and the nurses outfit isn't innocent.
Fakers.
Fakers.

Mainstream like Presbyterian? I had a laugh about that one. We went to a "main stream Presbyterian" wedding in Chiapas a couple of weeks ago and my husband who is Presbyterian was in shock you would have we were in one of the snake handling church in the south. Some of the Presbyterians in Mexico are way more like evangelist holly roller than like the Presbyterian we know. Onemain drawback in that kind of wedding...no alcohol!

I will take a closer look again next time I see them, but you know what? I doubt very seriously that Mexicans are confused or think they're from CR!

Re: Which Church are they from?
When we make a Mexico trip, we have a habit of collecting all of our loose change in the ashtray of the rental car with the plan to donate to Cruz Roja at the end of the trip. Back in 2011, I was returning from Sayula with Brigitte and right outside of Jocotepec we came upon this group. I did jump to the assumption that they were from Cruz and started digging out all the change. Brigitte then informed me that they were not from Cruz and they didn't get the donation!

Re: Which Church are they from?
Haha. So the answer is.....nobody has much of a clue who they're with.
We've got to get to the bottom of this! I'll make it my job to find out who they are and report back.
BTW, I've seen Cruz Roja working the same intersection at the same time. So if there's a turf war, there must have been a truce called at that time.

OK, I stand corrected! Since we never smoked in our vehciles and have both quit smoking, I don't pay much attention to the existance of ashtrays - maybe we used one of those miscellaneous compartments they now put in most cars? We have just figured that our collections of loose change would do more good going to Cruz Roja than being dragged back NOB.

Both Charlie Kestadt (Red Cross Charlie) and I seem to remember that they were 7th day Adventists from Tonala'. He further mentioned that other expats mentioned to him that they have seen these same uniforms warn by persons collecting between here and PV as well.

Re: Which Church are they from?
The Cruz Roja has specific times that they solicit funds and they do announce via the media when they are having their drives. Of course, donations are always welcome. You can give cash or buy raffle tickets, attend a function, but they do not stand at intersections every weekend except at the previously announced times.

Re: Which Church are they from?
I have seen these same folk outside Safeway, Lucky's and the like in Northern California over the past five years or so! So it would appear that this group is spread wider than Lakeside, GDL, and PV. Be sure of one thing these folk are not members of Opus Dei.

You will find all you want to know about these folk at :
http://www.halosheaven.com/2011/6/9/2216460/theyre-no-angels-missionary-church-masters-stadium-panhandling
I have seen these folk around supermarkets in Northern California over the past five years.
Is it not sad that the religious fervor of some is preyed upon by the greedy.

Wouldn't "Bless you brer!" be more appropriate? (Hardee har har)
Outstanding link! That sure looks like them in the photos.....time to confirm with a little due diligence / further research. You've made my weekend "intersection research" much more interesting! Thank you!

Wow, Brer, good sleuthing! They sure are all over the place.
I TOLD you guys they look nothing like CR nor are they trying to!
Well, the website discloses that these clowns that frequent our intersection and topes are likely from the Tonala mission. Did you like the Amazing Grace soundtrack? Nice touch.

Re: Which Church are they from?
They belong to the Pee Green Church, affilated with The Church of What's Happening Now. 98% scam. They are all over Mexico, Central and South America, also some US states. Stay away.

Re: Which Church are they from?
Yeah, a quick internet search on the "Missionary Church of the Disciples of Jesus Christ" doesn't reveal a whole lot of flattering press, at least as regards the US operation. And their website is a spooky little thing. Amazing how far-flung they are. Thanks again for the revealing link, brercottage. Mystery solved.

Re: Which Church are they from?
What I liked about the article in the link was that it stated something to the effect that these people offend religious people and atheists alike. Quite a tacky begging team under a sophisticated guise.

Re: Which Church are they from?
I give them money just for having the guts to stand in the middle of that intersection.
Re: Which Church are they from?
In the heat!
I don't give them money though.
