Moderators Responsibilities
RoofBob here, posting as oncesubtle under my moderator icon as a moderator. Some discussion on another thread about a moderators responsibilities. I found this interesting as I don't know of any particular protocols other than common sense. So does anyone in the know know? We do aim to please. Thanks.

Re: Moderators Responsibilities
It is obvious who the agitators are. As noted by CBob it is the same ones daily. When these offenders repeatedly pick on the same people they should be banned.
I see some flat out misinformation that needs to be called out but just don't do it because it goes against what the popular antagonists think they know. You can't call out one jerk because all the other jerks pile on.
If its in they octagon well so be it however even there some things are better left unsaid. Some posters have no filters and do not care one iota the harm they do.

Re: Moderators Responsibilities
The biggest thing, I believe, is to be "consistent" with every member. Everyone needs to be treated the exact same no matter how much you may "personally" like or dislike a member. That, IMO, is one of the biggest pitfalls that a moderator can fall into.
Re: Moderators Responsibilities
Repeatedly and I' ll use mainecoones as an example. Just because there is an octagon is not a reason to start a bashing of that person. Before that it was John, prior to that it was Pedro. Personally I wish there were rules in place where you cannot start a thread such as that.
I believe in free speech. But it has gotten to a the point where I just keep my mouth shut and not just on this forum but I mean anything about politics , religion anything related to global warming. The art of agreeing to disagree has been lost. Tact , and manners are a thing of the past.

That's right, along with having common sense. Getting into a personal pizzing contest with a member has to be modicide.

Graciás a Dios....There's something to said for "safety in numbers", even with "jerks". ¡Somos conjuntos!

Without agitators this forum would be boring as all get out IMO,that said I could do without witnessing some of the personal and public meltdowns seen around here lately.Todo con medida.

Another thing I find amusing is when people speak or write in Spanish thinking that only the buds they're addressing understand. That goes for other languages also.

Consistent common sense sounds like a good way to do it.
Got no complaints from me about how it has been run, I think all is well.

No kidding, huh? Not only that but some things just need to be said in Spanish!

Re: Moderators Responsibilities
No complaints from me either. Occasionally I would like to have seen what caused a kerfuffle that got deleted...then again...meh.
Both CBob and Oncesubtle are level headed and have common sense...I also appreciate their senses of humour.
IMHO, we're lucky to have this board.

Proper behavior and moderator responsibilities? How should I know. I can't even manage to get kicked off Chapala.com.
I feel like a failure.

I never said not to write or speak in another language. I said:

Rosa, it's a piece of cake. Wait till a Mod closes a thread, then start a new thread, asking why they closed the previous thread!
EZ PE ZY, I was banned for a year!

Re: Moderators Responsibilities
That didn't work for me Jim. I have been more than critical about some of the stuff that happens on that board...ON that board. Guess that makes me a failure too. Although I do have THREE marks against me, I don't know how many it takes to really get the boot.

I would ban all the right wing nutjobs right out of the gate, just on general principle, other than that I wouldn't change a thing.oncesubtle wrote:oncesubtle wrote: RoofBob here, posting as oncesubtle under my moderator icon as a moderator. ROTFLMAO!
Love the humour!
I would moderate this board exactly the way it's being moderated. You have the patience of Job and do a great job. It doesn't need fixing.

Hey Roofbob, sounds like everyone is saying that you guys should keep doing what you're already doing.
Good, that'll leave you more time to get them folks at LCS all stirred up.
How's the new digs?? You liken it?

It took me less than 2 weeks and less than 15 post to get banned from chapala.com . Does that give me the record for quickest banning?
