I was selling my printer to an individual and he connected it to his laptop but he says it wouldn't communicate. I'm thinking he meant his operating system didn't automatically recognize the printer. I don't know why this would have happened...anyone have any ideas? I assume he could have always just downloaded the driver via Internet, but he either didn't know that was possible or forgot to think of that. Thanks for any ideas

Download the software programs and drivers for the AIO. Follow the instructions EXACTLY. If the program says to leave the printer off until
told to turn it on do so. All in ones are much more complicated driver and
Software wise compared to plain printers. Make sure you load SW and drivers
for His/her laptop operating system.

Thanks...guess I just needed someone to confirm the issue. I can do it for him if he still wants the printer.

Yes, Zed is correct. There are a few printers, especially older ones with parallel ports instead of USB that are installed automatically unders Windows XP, and a few newer ones that are recognized automatically under Windows 7, but 98% require the drivers.

With HP in particular, they tell you to keep the power off, but leaving the power on and the USB cable unplugged works just as well. I did have a new HP printer install last week that didn't require that... I hope this is a new direction for them. Printer installs from HP are needlessly complicated.
