I have a '95 minivan that I'd like to nationalize. How can I do this? How much might it cost?

Call a customs broker as much will depend where the van was manufactured, etc. It might not be worth it (might cost more than you could sell it in US) unless it won't make it to the border or it has sentimental value.

I thought you couldn't nationalize any vehicle over 10 years old. No?

Oh thanks for the clarification. I knew there was something about 10 years.

You can nationalize any vehicle and the only thing with the 10 year limit and older is they have special waivers for taxes and the like for NAFTA participant manufactured cars.

There are other rules for border areas, it is all generally clear as mud.

you can just drive to Nuevo Laredo and either go to immigration office and they can get you a broker or look around. They are almost at every corner.
Takes about 3 full days to do then you are on your way. Just drive back and register it here. Very very easy.

Wouldn't you go to Aduana rather than Immigration? Isn't McAllen closer to Lakeside?
