2 for 1 question
Q1. On the new parking system in Chapala, what happens if while I'm talking to the ticket machine, I get a ticket?
Q2. I was told by a Mexican that if I get a ticket from a cop, there is no way to fight it. If I don't pay, when it comes time for my license renewal, I don't get the renewal until I pay. Is this correct?
I would appreciate direct responses before this thread is highjacked to other subjects.
Thanks.

Re: 2 for 1 question
there's a 50% discounted rate if you pay it w/in the 1st 10 days. If you have a foreign plated car, you don't have to worry about it unless it gets towed. Anyone know how much a ticket is now? I got one several years ago and it was 25 pesos, well worth it.
Yes, if you wait for renewal, you'll get to pay for all of your unpaid tickets at that time.

Re: 2 for 1 question
the city run parking meters have absolutely nothing to do with vialidad. how often do some of you have to be told about who enforces what around here. and it matters not if you are ferner plated or not fer the city run meters. ya gotta pay.
SEVERAL YEARS AGO THERE WERE NO METERS!!!!!!!! THERE AIN'T NO GD DISCOUNT.
meters are city,city,city,city,etc.
any other is vialidad, state state state state, etc
2 two 2 two different types of offence in 2 different places -comprende,understand, capisce!!!!!!

Yeah, but won't I have to pay the fine when I go to register the car?

Anyone able to answer about a "not guilty" plea?

Re: 2 for 1 question
Your best bet might be to try and locate one of the meter maids, as there are several of them on each block (at least on Hidalgo) and motion to them that you are going to go walk and get a ticket and that you will be right back. Will it work? I don't know, but seems like something to try.

If you plan on entering a not guilty plea you might want to hire a lawyer.Talosian wrote:Anyone able to answer about a "not guilty" plea?

Re: 2 for 1 question
Keep in mind that the meters and tickets are being handled by a private company and they have The Boot. Just a guess, but if your NOB plated car gets too many unpaid tickets, they have ways to make you pay.
Am I the only one who has little kids run up, take my pesos and bring me a card for the window? I figured it was a nice little cottage industry - I give them an extra peso, they know where the damn machine is, and we're both happy.

That is a good question since the car is registered with the state and the parking tickets are a municipal issue. Perhaps the state and municipality will work out an accommodation where accumulated municipal tickets are collected at registration time but, frankly, I really like the idea of the boot used to collect from scofflaws. Finding the boot on your car is a fine and unforgetable lesson in civic responsibility. If you find the boot on your car you just head over to city hall and pay the accumulated fines plus, hopefully, substantial fees and fines to help you remember the occasion.
Finally, the Mexican government is catching on to scofflaw expats who routinely ignore their responsibilities by failing to pay fair parking or traffic tickets and we are going to see far fewer of these morons driving around Mexico with foreign plates due to the new immigration and customs rules now coming into play. Good riddance to these leaches who ignore the law while locals pay.

Re: 2 for 1 question
You can fight tickets but few know how and most would not pay for a competent attorney to fight the ticket as it would run more than the ticket.
Here is a judgment exonerating a traffic ticket from the federales that we used as a practical case in my tax law class

Re: 2 for 1 question
Yikes, here is the new SCAM, the car washers flagged me into a spot, and told me they would deposit my 20 pesos into the parking machine.
Well guess what? Ticket on my windshield upon my return, no carwasher around. Just happened to walk upon the cop writing the ticket. He confirmed that this has been happening and tore up the ticket, and shook his head with apology.
Next time....I walk down the block and deposit my own money, even if I am in a hurry. :(

The receipt has to go on your dashboard; were you leaving your car open for him to put it there?
Nice of the "enforcer" to tear up the ticket.
What worries me is that I read they can/may/will boot a car. Wonder how they decide which ones that happens to?
Small tuition.

Re: 2 for 1 question
sunday i saw a meter guy go up to a family that just parked and were about to walk away. he 'splained to them and one of 'em went to the machine and came back putting their ticket on the dash.
i noticed that there were lotsa parking spots on the malecon and lower madero. not like in the old days before meters. if you park along side the median , you have entered transito territory, where you will be ticketed and towed away.

Now that is funny.....apparently if you are alone you may get a ticket while you are purchasing your parking receipt.
