The Age Question - 45-49, 50-54, 55-59
Hello, post number 1 here for me. Was referred here on another board.
I've seen this question asked on several forums. Makes some people uncomfortable, but así es la vida.
I know that Lakeside is full of people aged 60+, especially seasonally. But there are some non-locals around who fall into younger age bands. Question is, how many? How many gringos/gringas might be around that fall into the age ranges of 45-49, 50-54, 55-59?
In case you are wondering, no I am not a marketing person, I am not writing a paper, I am not thinking of starting a business, or anything like that. I'm trying to project what living down there might feel like as a gringo if you are under 60 years of age, perhaps well under 60 years of age (i.e. me). If I relocate, am I going to bump into a good number of age peers?

I've been here 4 years now and there are a few younger people in and around Ajijic. I'm 55 soon to be 56 I know of another man that's 54 and a still younger man of about 27 there are a couple more. As for women I can think of about 4 that are in their 40's. True there are more older people here but it's a great place to start in Mexico and travel from here until you find a nicer place. I haven't yet.
There is also a beech town named Sayulita that has more people in their mid to late 30's to 50's do a google search for this town.

I would concentrate on the younger Mexican women, but if you need men your age...

I've been to Sayulita, its tiny about 4000 people, waa-aay too small. And the weather is genuinely broiling much of the year on the coast. Average high is about 90 much of the summer, with a limited cool down at night.
Also, an attractive aspect of Chapala is its proximity to Guad.

There are quite a few younger expats here, you just have to know where to find them.

Care to name a few, "where's"? I asked this same question on another forum, after someone posted a response just like yours. No one really answered.

I'm going to make a wild guess: drive down the main drag in Ajijic past El Bar Co at around 9 pm. You'll probably hear the music; it's said to be loud. Peek in the door and see who's there. Probably not the elders.
CBob, our fearless leader who posted above, can probably give you a few more specifics.
Welcome and good luck.

Maybe they, or we, or most, just didn‘t like the question. Why is it so relevant to you that you have posted it on several boards?

The answer is quite simple young expats are a very small minority so if you want to bump into young expat do not go to AJijic or Chapala.

Guadalajara! That's where you should be. Your handle says it all. We're country down here.

There are not as many people here my age, compared to the 60+ crowd, but you find your crowd, your friends as you move along and keep an open mind. Being under 50 (barely)is not really that much of rarity. And just to clarify, I'm only referring to people from NOB, of course locals cover all age groups. Its a great place to acclimatize, learn some of the language, then move on if its not for you.

I don't think it is an age question. It is more of a lifestyle question.

Didn't like the question? Because its so intrusive to ask for some insights/perspectives?
RVGRINGO wrote: Why is it so relevant to you that you have posted it on several boards?
A person considering moving to a place is seeking to learn about it before jumping - you can't get your mind around that?

Here's my perspective,I didn't move to Mexico to hang out with other gringos,I could have done that in the US.There are plenty of intelligent, interesting, fun loving Mexicans to meet here if you speak the language.UrbanMan wrote:

Exactly, me too! There is a whole country's worth of people to hang with in your age group. Learn Spanish, it will be worth it.

Very valid point, and I agree completely. My learning of Spanish is in progress to help with that. That said, if I had to guess, I expect some portion of the people I get to know will be fellow escapees. Variety is the ideal state.

I agree with the point that it's not just an age issue as much as one of lifestyle. There is a lot of difference between the "early cocktails till near passout" crowd and the Plein Air painting group. Between the motorcyclists and the kayakers. And so on.......
The only way to find out is to be there for awhile, wherever "there" is. I know this because circumstances caused me to move around..........a lot. (No, I wasn't running from the law.)
