Did a search of this board and TOB and couldn't find anything definitive. Anyone with recent experience? Thanks for your help, it is appreciated.

I renewed mine 2 months ago in Guadalajara, they wanted the following:old license, passport w/copy,curp w/copy,FM2 or 3 w/copy,comprobante de domicilio w/copy and the fee.I would'nt recommend doing it Guadalajara, the offices open at 8:30 but the line starts forming at 6am,I was there for 5.5 hrs.

I'd also like info about local renewing...even though ours are not due to be renewed for a couple of years.
When we last renewed, in Nayarit, my hubby had just turned 70. They said that he needed a Doctor's certificate to do so. OKaaaay. "Do you have a list of the medical things that you want checked?" Nooooo. "Do you have a list of the official Doctors that do the checking?" Noooo. He sighed deeply and said "Give me your husband's documents"...and my hubby walked out with his license renewed.
Soooo, what's the deal here?...it would be nice to know in advance. TIA!

We renewed ours about 2 months ago in Chapala. Paid the day before, then went to the transito office at 8:30 with the paid bill, curp, phone bill, passport and old license. They took us both at the same time and we were out of there in 1/2 hr. There was no talk of mordida, everyone was very polite and all in all a very pleasant transaction.

Thanks viajero, I think we'll do the Chapala thing. Senior martygraw, thanks for your input and how about a couple of questions, por favor.

I assume you paid the day before at the transito office?

Where is the transito office?

Mucho thank yous in advance!

RB, the new transito office is in Chapala. I get there by going to the post office then turning left and going either one or two blocks where you will see all the cars and the office on the corner.

Now are those Mexican directions or what! :)

Thanks Trail, those really are Mexican directions and they would be even more helpful if I knew where the post office is located. scratch

haha I dunno the name of it. Go up Madera towards Soriana, and I think it's the second street you can make a right on. If you get to the bus station, you went a right too far.
Someone else will chime in with address, a google map, and GPS quadrants I'm sure.

When you go RoofBob, will you please enquire if a medical certificate is required for those renewing who are over the age of 70? I would appreciate the info and it would save me a trip. Thanks.

Husband just got his first time Mexican license this month since his NOB one was due to expire. He is over 70 and no medical certificate was required.

You bet but it won't be for another week as we have company coming in on Tuesday.

From TOB: "A family member went in on Monday (3/25) to renew their drivers license and there is a sign on the door saying that the office is CLOSED until April 18th."

No clue as to the accuracy, BUT!
