Under Door Draft Stopper
A long time ago we had fabric tube shaped draft stoppers to put in front of the door to stop the wind from coming in under the door - some creative people made them look like a weiner dog or a cat - does anyone know where I might find such an item Lakeside - or perhaps where I could get them made? Or perhaps there is a better more up to date solution of which I am unaware!

Re: Under Door Draft Stopper
They used to call them "door snakes" back in San Miguel de Allende (where winters are much colder) . They were filled with a material that dried reasonably fast (like lightweight aggregate) and some were really imaginative.
Maybe a good project for a Mexican womens' coop?

A couple of knee length socks filled with kitty litter works well.
You can probably find door sweeps (the rubber pieces for the door) at one of the hardwares or at Home Depot.

I use large black pipe insulation from up north. It is split to go over a pipe and
the large pipe insulation is perfect for going OVER the bottom of the door. Works
great on the black metal doors with 1/2" open at bottom.

Nope there seems to be a reasonably good supply in Florida.

The engineering challenge is separating the knee high socks from the sandals!

The sandals stay attached and are used as doorstops.

Re: Under Door Draft Stopper
We have a huge space at the bottom of the door. I used a pool noodle in the same manner as the black pipe insulator. Looks kinda sharp and very Mexican...lavender coloured noodle against the dark green iron work. 25 pesos each in Walmart, every colour of the rainbow and cut to the size you need with a kitchen knife. :)

Great idea. I have the rubber stripping on a wooded door. since the door seems to expand (lack of a better term) in the summer months the rubber sticks to the uneven tiles and is very difficult to open the door. The brush bottom stoppers would be perfect, but are not available here in Mexico.

They have a dandy one locally that works just as well as the brush on the bottom. The upper part is metal with the lower half inch being rubber. The whole thing is on springs so that as soon as you open the door it lifts up so that it doesn't jam on the floor. As soon as you close the door it flips back down securing the gap. The Prisa store in Ajijic has them and any ironman will know about them.

Good info. That's what I had on my front door, but the rubber will eventually wear out. Get a handyman to put it on. Not to big a deal.
