New INM Laws and the Locals
I was at my neighbors today, local abarrote owners, and I mentioned the new INM laws to them. The husband of this family is a past presidente of SAT, very astute, educated, and well connected. A good man too. He was stunned! Speechless! He said it has not been in the news or the papers and he had no idea. We discussed the political ramifications.
We also discussed possible ways of dealing with this. In the end, he said he would organize a group meeting with Pancho, Tony, etc etc and take their concerns to Joaquin Huerta as they have worked together in the past and he feels Presidente Huerta might be of help.
I told him I would check in with him later for any updates from their meeting and that I would report any news here.
Vamos a ver.

My landlords were stunned and speechless as well. I would imagine it won't take long for the news to flow through "la comunidad mexicana así."
Hey, it's always something ;- )

Re: New INM Laws and the Locals
I spent some time today checking the "jungle drums" on other forums that cater to the Gringo population in other areas of Mexico. Overall, there doesn't seem to be the sense of panic nor the guessing games like those coming out of the Lake Chapala area. Now before someone screams at me that this is the largest concentration, I do recognize that fact. The PV Scene forum is fairly active with 44 comments but the San Miguel de Allende only has 9 comments. If I am interpretting things correctly, the foreign population in many other areas recognize the fact that they know very little and are willing to take a wait and see attitude?

Re: New INM Laws and the Locals
The Yahoo Group for SMA has quite a few posts, a few in Mazatlan and few in Cuernavaca. I think there are tons of folks that spend very little time on the Internet and haven't a clue what's happening
Re: New INM Laws and the Locals
Hello, San Miguel, they have MONEY to live there. Of course there are few concerns. Well now if these rquirements do hold up, I'll be posting from some small town in the south of the USA, living in a shack!

Unless you have spent a good deal of recent time in San Miguel de Allende, you may be jumping to inaccurate conclusions? I mentioned those two forums because of the Gringo concentration but others such as Morelia/Patzcuaro and others are much calmer.

Re: New INM Laws and the Locals
I think we foreigners might want to mention this new law to our landlords, bankers, doctors, shopkeepers, real estate agents, neighbors, and any other Mexican people that you think would be impacted.
As someone else said, this should spread the news via the coconut wireless rapidly.
