New FM? laws hurting MX?
Though not quite ready to move down yet, we are trying to figure the logistics of the FMM then FM3. If we come down on an FMM and then within the 180 days figure out where in MX we are going to live, we have to get the FM3 and within 30 days arrange to have our goods moved down. This seems like a lot to do in a short period of time. And if you don't get location resolved in 180 days you have to go back home and wait a year to try again. My question is: Do you think this new enforcement is going to hurt Mexico's courting of retirees and NOBers?

I'm still waiting for someone to show me an official statement that one can have only one FMM per year.
Re: New FM? laws hurting MX?
I doubt it will hurt.
Six months is about enough time to figure out where you want to live, at least for awhile. If you don't unscrew the kitchen sink and include it in your goods shipment, it should not cost too much to store. There are little family moving companies who will take your stuff from one town to another without costing the moon.
I think those who are inclined by the spirit of adventure or economic necessity or a combo of both will keep on coming. Plenty of 'em.

Oh we've got the adventure. Tho we are 50-somethings we are talking about basically 'backpacking' it for 3-4 months till we find the city we want (Chapapa area or Pacific coast). But then that leaves us a very short period to go back to that town, get a house/address so we can apply for the FM3, get back to the States and get packed (accessories and hobby equipment that I have already been told I need to bring with me) and get it shipped in the 30 days...
Rolly, if you haven't heard it might not be out there....I will be interested in the outcome...officially...

Gringal, that is an idea. If we haven't found the house we want permanently, we just find something inexpensive somewhere, ship the stuff and continue searching. Thanks!

Don't worry about your "stuff" .... bring the minimum and bring it when it's comfortable. So you have to pay a small import fee .... the cost of doing business.
More important to find the right place, area, house .... and relax. Might take you a couple of years to find the right thing

Re: New FM? laws hurting MX?
The reason I gave that advice is that we were in TOO big a hurry to get settled, so we bought a house which we wouldn't have bought a year later. Turned out to be an expensive mistake....so I'd hate to see someone else do it.
Take your time. That "stuff" will keep. Buen Suerte.

Re: New FM? laws hurting MX?
We have been having the same questions so I called the local (Portland, OR) consulate today and was told 1) two different FMM's in one calendar year will be no problem as long as we don't overstay the 180 days of the first one. 2) If and when we decide on the FM3 we will have 6 months to bring in the household goods.
Anyone been told something different? Should we try another source?
Thanks for your input.

You said what I had been thinking, but not what I wanted to hear.
