Re: Lake Agua Milpa
I have often wondered about this lake as a respite from the coast weather in the summer months. Night time temperatures of 20 C. sound divine. Unfortunately, we're not interested in fishing. Does anyone know of other types of accommodation there that might suit us (and woof)?

Ferret, I am sure most lodges would accomodate "woof" Just not left in room while you are out. There are 2 villages on the lake available by water taxi...mainly hand crafted items for sale. No cell service and no Internet....without sat link.
The rooms have 2 beds, private shower, clean, tile floors. Of the 5 lodges, only 2 have private well...Humberto and Consualo (sp}, the rest draw directly from the lake.

Jim, when you say 'hand crafted items' I assume you mean Huichol, since this is Huichol country.
Is it possible to not only stay there in one of these lodges but to get someone to take you into a Huichol village to buy?
Also, what do the lodges charge, mas o menos. Are there websites for any of them?
BTW, killer good picture!
TIA

Trailrrunner, Thank You for kudo's on photo....Taken around Christmas 2007....my avatar was also taken around that time....dead cayman.
The crafts I've seen include beadwork, dolls etc. Humberto was elected chief of tribe back in 2008...he owns one of the 2 newest lodges. I think your best bet is to hire one of his guides for 6 hours, for 700 pesos....up to 4 people, to travel to both villages. One village is approx. 5 miles, the other is at least 20 miles, plus a 2 km hike. The cost for a room for 1 or 2 is 500 pesos, and very clean ++++ Air conditioned.
The reason I suggest hiring a guide vs. water taxi @ approx. 100 pesos, Per person, is that you are in control, and won't have to wait for pick up. I will check on taxi schedule while I am up there next week.
This is a bad time of the year to go as water level is at it's lowest level since 1997. Best time of year IMO is Late Oct.-Feb.
Talk Soon, Jim W

Re: Lake Agua Milpa
Thanks, Jim.
I would never hike or enter Huichol country or villages without permission or an escort/guide. Just not cool. Have always wanted to go up there and stay at the lake and hike around and get a guide to a village tho. Thanks for the info.
Si, bad time of year for sure.

Re: Lake Agua Milpa
viajero, no, pulled it up on web, looks like it would be worth a try, I see a 12 pounder was caught in the last couple years. Please send me a link if you find one on lodge, boat and guide rates. I know there are many lakes in the region, just hard to get info.
Bill Chapman, the man that introduced Black Mouth Bass to Mexico, is working on a couple locations near GDL to develop Lodge and boat/guide opportunities.
Thank You, Jim W

You are Welcome. Trailrunner, forgot to mention I asked Humberto about doing the day tour we discussed. For your tour it would be 900 pesos +/-, including guide, plus tip. One of the art lodges is approx. 30 miles by boat each way, depending on wind an hour plus from his lodge @ the dam. They have to truck in gas from Tepic in 50 gallon tanks.
Mods, can you "Sticky" Agua Milpa, Lodge contact, pricing, etc. posted earlier on this thread? I verified all earlier this week...Gracias.

We are going to be offering advertising for local businesses soon. When we are ready we will contact Humberto to see if he is interested in having an ad.

Jim W, how do you get someone to pay for something if you give it to them free? I do believe this person charges for his services, No?

Sorry Parker, I didn't realize Sticky policy changed. I thought listing all who provide services, much like contractors and restaurants stickys were OK.....My bad.

Nope, moving forward any business that wants to formally advertise can sign up for a banner ad. I have no problem with carrying on as is with reviews and/or opinions of various restaurants and businesses.........
