Re: Canadians in Florida?
Since I refuse to read what the resident idiot has posted, I am going to guess that he is assuming again and lumping AZ and NM together with the same characteristics? Since the fool has never spent any time in either, he hasn't a clue but AZ and NM are distinctly different States!
We made the choice to move to NM and I don't thing anyone has ever seen where I have expounded that it is the best place to be. It works for us and that is all that matters. If someone wishes to criticize, so be it and I certainly won't take it personally, especially from an idiot who hasn't a clue!

Why all the “Drama”, why can’t you just let it go? This is just the same as if you were to read his posts, No?

I am in Texas and have never paid a thousand dollar electric bill. My sister lived in Arizona and never had a thousand dollar electric bill. Total lie...

Re: Canadians in Florida?
We live in a townhouse and even during the heat of the summer when we run our evap cooler on high 24 hours a day, our highest bill has been just under $80. During our freezing winter weather, we go through 1 cord of firewood and our highest natural gas bill has been $125.
The 28" of snow mentioned by jrm30655 was a freak event some years back. Last year was a more typical winter and I had to scoop 1" to 3" of snow off the parking pad three times.

What would you say your average electric bill was and your highest electric bill? My neighbors lived in Scottsdale AZ for 26 years and paid plenty of $ 1,000. electric bills. It's far from a total lie. Anywhere where you have high temperatures you'll be paying high electric bills.
A guy from TX posted on one thread that his electric bills averaged $ 320 a month. My neighbors live in SC and said their electric bill averages $ 500. a month for 5 months. Something doesn't compute here with people talking of $ 80 and $ 176 electric bills.
CG - An evaporative cooler is not the same as A/C. It is cheaper to run.
Average Electric Rates 2010 per kwh:
AZ - 10.97 c
NM - 10.52 c
TX - 11.60 c
NC - 8.13 c
SC - 10.50 c

I don't scrutinize every penny. But where I live now because of a lot of shade trees large porches and not being in a concrete and glass environment. My electric is cheap. Highest bill ever paid in city was almost 300.00 crappy insulation and no trees. That was some time maybe 15 years ago. My house is made of stone.

Doesn't matter, in a non humidity state all you need is evap. I have on I use in the work shop with exhaust fan. Works fine even in Texas.

Re: Canadians in Florida?
Interesting... the OP inquired as to ways a Canadian might circumvent the "6 month rule" imposed by their immigration.
I had no idea the subject could be so inflammatory... Lizzy
